Edgbaston res 10-11.30

Absolutely delighted to find only my 2nd ever Redshank on patch.

That's our 6th wader of the year, which ain't too shabby for the res.

An accompanying cast of 8 Siskin, f Teal, Skylark & 20+Pied wags made for a very worthy visit

This week we ringed over 1000 Redpoll on Cannock chase in 5 sessions! The number of birds seen has been spectacular, but a lot have now moved on. In all of the birds ringed we only caught 3 that had been ringed elsewhere, but didn't recapture a single bird we ringed! #migration #birdringing
Nice autumnal wander along the canal from Caunsall bridge to the Lock Inn at Cookley & back 🍂

First Fieldfare of the autumn were nice to see with 8+16. No Redwing tho
7+ Siskin, 1 Redpoll, several Skylark & plenty of showy Jay's around.

Almost a regional record we understand. One would have been lovely.....8 is just ace!
For context. Water levels in winter are usually around this level 😮
In a few months' time, this may be the case again. Apparently, work is being undertaken to clear the outlet that gets opened to top up the canals; hence the very low levels now.

The brilliant @privateeyenews.bsky.social captures British journalists and political commentators in a nutshell over their Nigel Farage and Reform Party UK Ltd obsession.
You can bet on it 😏....that or tightroping across. I'd watch that tbh!

Ed Davey, "I'm afraid Nigel Farage should be apologising for helping cause this problem in the first place"

"Before Brexit we didn't have a small boats problem because we had 27 return agreements with EU countries and we could return people"

It's been good for sure. 5 records from two areas in 4 years.
3 occurrences in Edgbaston area were outstanding. 2 at Walton (including yesterday) were brief affairs.
Although still obviously low in numbers, I think there's more around than ppl think
