Growing up in Philly, yeah.

Younknew, but nobody said it explicitly.

We've got guys who sit at 100 and throw Maddux 2-seamers who also have killer breaking balls and they're like the number 4 on a questionable staff.

Had a bit of a rude start when Lauren's dad (who likes, as opposed to loves, baseball) was complaining that the pitchers duels we've been seeing in the playoffs are boring.

I'm weird about this, I know it, but the pitching we've been seeing has been incredible, and I just don't understand.
robhanna.bsky.social
Maybe.

I think on a fundamental level pitching has gotten *ridiculous*, and I don't see how you can get aroond that by tweaking the ball.

But if it flies further, sure. That's more action. People like dingers.

And yeah, offensive conditions were very different in that era.
robhanna.bsky.social
Yep!

He was real bad, but that's special.

An identical bat was more valuable at 1B than in LF. His gad defense was (allegedly) less important at 1B b/c so many 1B were bad defensively it was less of an issue statistically.

But just... don't think the one stat gets you very far, okay? Nuance. Is your friend.

Now, Adam Dunn was a very bad left fielder. Like... very bad. A cow on broken rollerskates. I remember his arm being decent.

But the year following he switched to 1B, hit worse, .892 OPS, walked less, and played a pretty bad 1B. Positive 2.5 WAR year.

Now, I can walk thru *why* this is so.
robhanna.bsky.social
Fun with WAR.

Schwarbs put together a career year. A .928 OPS, 56 homers. 4.7 WAR, a career high, was not asked to play in the field often at all. Played 8 games in LF. 66 innings.

In 2009, w/ the Nats Adam Dunn OPSed .928 also. Walked more, but a measly 38 homers. A negative .4 WAR year.

Working towards Hitler is a framework that seems more and more relevant.

The way you advance in Trumpworld is to make his little idiot whims reality. It's a competitive bloodsport. That's dangerous!
robhanna.bsky.social
*we need a word for, rather

Trump will kinda make a pronouncement, then it's like an open season competition to brhave as if it's true, so it becomes real, in their little fucked up imagine-o-sphere of crazy...

It's a thing that's so transparently nonsense.
robhanna.bsky.social
We need a word gor un-language like this. It's bullshit, but it's more than that.

Bullshit is speech that's not true, but you want the hearer to buy it.

This is... transparently intrue, but certain people want it to be, so it's like a signal for a sort of spur of the moment fraud consensus.

Trump: "The people of Chicago are walking around with MAGA hats. You have women, beautiful Black women, walking around with MAGA hats. 'Please let the president in and we don't care how he does it ... bring in the Marines.'"

Wasn't aware he wrote the damn Declaration of Independence, or did the Louisiana Purchase either.
robhanna.bsky.social
Oh!

I forgot to overthink this.

But Tom Jones and the Cardigans' cover of Burning Down the House is a personal favorite.

Can we call Whien The Levee Breaks a cover? More of an adaptation.

Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will debate Wednesday on C-SPAN.

The yet-to-be-scheduled showdown will take place on “Ceasefire,” hosted by our Dasha Burns.

Exactly.

And there are a hell of a lot of Black voters here in PA.

what do i think would work? focusing on class and race and gender and with a particular focus on progressive-leaning politics that appeal to a large majority of americans, centered around a campaign using MODERN communications. but nobody wants to bother with that.
robhanna.bsky.social
Subtweet. South Carolina should matter less than Pennsylvania in Democratic primary season.

Call me a racist, that's fine.
robhanna.bsky.social
Agree, yep.

Some of tge staffers he hired are an embarrassment.
owillis.bsky.social
When progressives talk about the DNC purportedly taking out Bernie Sanders it sounds insane. The DNC establishment couldn’t take out the garbage. Sanders two campaigns were terribly put together and the people he hired were utter incompetents. The Dem establishment sucks but so did Bernie’s team.

Baseball is just a game, they said.

Nah. Never was. Never will be. It's in the middle of so many different American things. Good things and bad things.
