To introduce myself.

I’ve been a teacher for almost 28 years.

Forever striving to help young people equip themselves with the knowledge and skills, to take the power that belongs to them, to make their world a better place.

Citizens first, consumers last.

I'm 51 years of age, and for all my adult life, the one constant in politics is 'we need to talk about immigration'. Could we try just try shutting the fuck up about it, actually?

So, I'm watching Sally Wainwright's excellent Riot Women – and, astonishingly, Joanna Scanlan's character has a copy of my book Daunderlust. I'd LOVE to know how the heck that has come about.

Example number 20079: why making a crazy uprating mechanism into an untouchable shibboleth creates a totally irrational system.

What a difference a few years make.

FYI: The new ‘peace plan’ is still inconsistent with international law and human rights protections.
mage shows screenshots of Keir Starmer's tweets:
2020 tweet - Trump’s so-called ‘peace plan’ is a farce. It is inconsistent with international law and human rights protections. Our Government should unequivocally condemn it because it will cause even more suffering for the Palestinian people who have already endured so much.

2025 tweet - President Trump, this is your achievement. I thank you for your tireless efforts to deliver this moment. The UK stands ready to support a full implementation of the peace plan.

But they lost.

Look how bold Greece started against us and they lost.

Surely this started as soon as families could afford to have more than one TV in their house?!?

What gets me about this though is that I was reading and talking about this possibility in the late 1990s on my masters programme. Divergence in the media markets was being foreseen then as digital was still being conceptualised. So I guess my point is why has this not been better planned for?

Last month, something unusual happened in TV - none of the main channels got a million viewers at 9pm. The bigger problem was it happened a 2nd & 3rd time soon after.

Another unwelcome landmark for linear TV & our shrinking shared TV experience.

Does it matter?

UK broadcasters used to rely on big audiences at 9pm, but as viewing habits change, figures are falling below the 1m mark

🗓 Last month's Calendar of Racism & Resistance shows how nationalism is weaponised against asylum seekers, against Palestine, & against anyone who dares to resist.

Can any Gaelic speakers tell me if Io sgail do sgiathan falaich mi means I will hide myself under the shadow of thy wings and, if so, if I spelled it correctly? Thank you!

Reading Thiel, Yarvin, Peterson et al. makes you realise what passes for intellectual iconoclasm these days is all absolute bollocks. Why anyone gives any of these people the time of day let alone credibility is baffling.

Not so much Hampden roar as Hampden bore.

But hey, we’ve played vastly better in a heap of qualifying campaigns and never made it to the World Cup. I’d take qualification over quality and so would you.

One curious thing on this site about speaking out against the encroachment of LLMs is that inevitably you get accused of being anti-tech. I don’t hate technology. I’ve used machine learning in my own code before. But I also recognize that oligarchs are so hellbent on pushing this tech for a reason.

There’s a BBC story “Does Scotland performance matter if win is the outcome?’

I mean, duh. Fortunately, the article actually doesn’t repeat the nonsense.
