I’m excited about sharing this book (published today!) with you. It contains so many of my favourite things: untrustworthy fairies, battling dragons, shapeshifting magic & strong clever girls who defeat their own monsters. And amazing art by @elisecillustration.com #Celtictales #storytelling #kidlit
a hardback book laid flat on a wooden table. The title of the book, in shiny green foil in the centre of the cover, is Celtic Folk and Fairy Tales, and two names at the bottom left are: Lari Don and Elise Carmichael. The cover art is a black horse with wild mane and sharp teeth leaping across the top, a seal wearing a pointy gold crown swimming at the bottom, and a wave of blue and white curving up the left side of the cover, linking them. There is a subtitle in smaller font reading: Magical Stories from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany
The movie was incredible. But the experience of watching it was rather ruined at the start.

Not to be a "Karen"... but I feel nothing but contempt for these theatres that have ONE job: to provide a seat and a dark room. Can't even do that. Pathetic. 3/3
In time, the lights turned off, and, mercifully, the audio turned up. The movie did not restart despite all of these various mishaps. Just continued to play like nothing had happened. Everyone in the theatre laughed and applauded as we patiently waited for these various flubs to be corrected... 2/3
The moment the movie started, the curtains drew over the screen. It stayed that way for about 3 minutes as the movie played on, audio very low. The lights stayed on. Then, very slowly, the curtains drew back. Lights continued to stay on, and the sound was still low for about 5 more minutes...1/3

One of my favourite Flemish folktales is that of a witch who lived near the sea in a derelict cottage that the locals avoided. They were thrilled when a storm destroyed it. The witch went to the sea and kept herself occupied by conjuring storms and capsizing ships.

🌙See thread for more witchery🌙
Art by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite. Black and white illustration of a witch standing in the pouring rain near a lake. Mountains in the far distance.

Btw my point isn't that it's good he's dead, but that he wasted his entire life spewing misinformation and hatred, and he kept doing it right until the end. Pathetic!
The insane messages I got after leaving this reply... My message to all my haters is that I absolutely promise to keep posting like this 🙏

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

Cyclops is a billion times more interesting than Wolverine. The gruff, loner hero is played out... give me a blue-suited boy scout who leads from the front, is vulnerable, has a messy family, is both grounded in the real and soaring into the cosmic. Give me a hero whose power is his disability.

"To be a Republican in 2025 represents a clear public confession that you either don't know the difference between good and evil and you're so morally empty that you can't be bothered to begin to try, or that you do know the difference, and you prefer evil." Great essay from @juliusgoat.bsky.social
The Crime of Human Virtue
Sometimes it really is as simple as good vs. evil. This is one of those times. Human virtue is our great crime against the fascist project; it's also our great weapon against it.
