I've been doing some work with The WI, who over the years - and to this day - have been proud to be "annoying", because you can't achieve equality or action on civil issues with a 'strongly worded letter to The Telegraph', lol. The centrists would have us signing a petition outside Waitrose, only.

#31DaysOfHalloween and as time is short today, I'm returning to an annual favourite. The Young Ones, S2, ep3, Nasty (1984). It's a lot of fun revolving around a postal delivered Vampire, gravediggers, a video nasty, and music from The Damned! What's not to love?

The Young Ones lettering is written in dripping orange (red?) font, and Vivian, Rick, Neil and Mike's heads are depicted in black and white and all are pulling monster faces. Rick appears to have been hung.
Captions read: Fear will freeze you when you face... [The Young Ones]. And 'Filmed in Horrorscope'.

The talking points connected the dots between a mainstream media & political environment which amplifies manufactured culture wars; the funding behind some of the right wing stuff (like growing, imported US Christian Nationalism); & disenfranchisement because of underfunding, austerity & poverty.

A shame no book signing this evening, as @nicklowles.bsky.social whisked off & away from @theobserveruk.bsky.social event because of National Front protesters / lurkers outside the building. A great talk though, from the down to earth, & modest man who founded the @hopenothate.org.uk movement.

This message cascaded down, as I attended a Mass with my Catholic wife on Sunday in London, and the priest was VERY strong on anti-migrant xenophobia and racism in the UK, and said it had NO place in Christianity and people who exercise the faith. Which was good to hear spoken so loudly.
