Delighted to be one of the winners of the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair 2025. I've worked on my novel for two years and this gives me a massive opportunity to try to get it published. Excited for what's next!

Write to your sons, but don't talk to them, because then we'd have to make this a podcast instead of a forthcoming book.

I Am Someone Who Writes Opinion Pieces For An Online Newspaper - The Things I Write Should Concern All Of Us

When did we start using the newspaper headline format that's like "I am a firefighter, these large yellow flames should concern all of us"?

It's like the more sober cousin of those tweets that would begin with "Historian here! 🙋🏻‍♂️"

I think with lawyers it's more like... the law should be made according to the needs of the public and written in a way that anyone can understand. Tech in general has been offering opportunities for people to bypass the more parasitic parts of the legal industry. LLMs may do this too, albeit risky.

Why do so many broadsheet reviews of novels follow the format of saying the book is amazing for 90% of the review, then a final line that says "however, this too is the book's great weakness, seeya"?

Fear of having to tag myself in all of them and then add more, lol.

The new Necks record is so good - how weird it is to listen to a new record by a band and feel like it could sit in the pantheon alongside basically anything else ever made.

Been spending most our lives, living in a grifter's paradise.

I love a lot of poetry, but poetry is also a grifter's paradise.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

I mean, for example, if you struck down the local priest with a lightning rod, during a storm.

Reading various reactions to American politics "antichrist" discourse, and I know this sounds a bit Stephen King's Carrie, but did anyone else's mum used to call them an antichrist if behaving particularly badly? "You little antichrist" is what I remember. Guessing only Catholics likely to say yes 😀

The new Afroman track is a fair bit darker than his classic stuff.

This was interesting. I did a contract in Defra circa 2014/2015 and the walls were plastered with these posters that said BRITAIN IS GREAT with a photo of a sausage in a pan or a pudgy loaf of bread or whatever, and a Union Jack background. Feels a similar vibe to what you criticise.

Absolute rage-inducer for content designers/strategists. The falsely utopian idea of 'we'll call it this and that'll mean it does everything'
