💿 Anyway, Still

🎤 Exit North

It’s been a while, but the intense soundscapes & Thomas Feiner’s distinct, powerful vocals still hit home.

Patience pays off with repeated listens & works so well as a complete listen. Really atmospheric…fans of David Sylvian will find lots to like.

Dulse 🤢

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Kidneys

The Banshees of Inisherin

American Pie, by Don McLean

(shudder)
It’s a really good album…possibly my favourite by the band Jonny. Evening Kitchen is my favourite BoH song too. No filler on the album👍

💿 The Smile You Send Out Returns To You

🎤 Constant Follower

By some distance my favourite folk album of the year, there is a real (and beautiful) ambient vibe running throughout.

It’s also my pick for Scottish Album of the Year👍

Reading a little around the album, their writing seems to be very literary, perhaps unusually so…a wide range of influences taking in everything from Philip Larkin to Whipping Boy.
It’s their second album I gather Vincent.
Interesting listen Vincent…it lands somewhere between shoegaze & post-punk. Or maybe some combination of the two. Vocally, there is a little of the rawness of the likes of The Murder Capital too. I’ll revisit & thanks for the pointer 😊👍👌
I definitely need to go back to it Tarik…haven’t listened to it for a long time.

💿 Shore

🎤 Fleet Foxes

A much warmer affair than the intense, confrontational & agitated Crack-Up. This is as pastoral & bright as the predecessor is inaccessible (to my ears)…it’s a gorgeous album.

Cradling Mother… is the standout for me, the equal of anything they have done.
Thanks Vincent…it will accompany me on the evening walk shortly 😊
What is the red background/face erased album Vincent?
Such a good album Paul…I really like All That Ever Could Have Been too.

Picturesque is almost majestic at times.
Plenty of time Vincent. I’m sure you have a few things lined up😊
It could potentially be a monumental next 12 months for them. Believe it or not, I’m pretty excited about the new album landing at HQ.

Assume you are hitting one of The Cure shows Vincent?
I had Hidden on in the car yesterday…another really inventive album. You need to be paying close attention to even hear a guitar. So much going on, even in first 2 tracks alone!
Delighted to see it landed at HQ and you are enjoying it…I’m with Paul and holding off until the record arrives. Just Mustard are holding up the delivery (just hope there was wisdom in also ordering that given my struggles to date 🥴).
Personally I’d start with Field of Reeds Eoin…If you are onboard with Laughing Stock era Talk Talk, it might work well for you. Probably Inside the Rose next, then Crooked Wing.

@vgbpw1.bsky.social might disagree though!
The way it was panning out I assumed it would be in your 1st place Paul…just shows what I know🥴
So no Evening Kitchen in your 10 Paul?
It still gets fairly regular play time here James. A really good album
I really like it Eoin. The equal of Inside the Rose I think.

Saturday evening edition.
The top 30 isn’t easy Nathan 🥴
I definitely like it more than that I think Nathan…it’s not a top 10 but the likes of Christmas Card make it worth the price of admission.

The likes of Foreign Affairs & Real Gone I struggle with more…the latter because it is overlong to me. An 8-10 track stunner is in there.

💿 Coaster

🎤 Massage

I couldn’t imagine any album beating Bon Iver’s latest to my AOTY, but Coaster has done it.

Listened to it so much yet it resonates more with each listen. Right up there among my favourite bands this century now. They just get better with every album.
