We co-hosted a coffee morning with Dulwich Social and were delighted to see so many people come together. Dulwich Social regularly organises events and we are co-hosting another coffee morning with them on Friday 7 November at Rocca, Dulwich Village, 9am-10.30am. Hope to see you there.
a group of people sit around tables chatting and laughing. there's even a little dog joining the fun
Some new member from Kingston, I think, now talking. One to watch out for.
Great to have such a strong team from @southwarklibdems.bsky.social at London Lib Dem Conference today, and proud to be hosting it here in Southwark.

We're here to raise awareness of Labour's unfair funding cuts to local government in London, and the urgent need for more investment in policing.
@maxwilkinson.bsky.social and @victoria-collins.bsky.social are doing a brilliant job at leading the fight against digital ID cards. Forcing 13 year olds to have digital ID is just weird and shows exactly why concerns about mission creep are valid.
Labour suggestions that 13 year old children should have to have a digital ID card is simply wrong.

Home Affairs Spokesperson @MaxWilkinson.bsky.social sets out why Lib Dems will continue to oppose mandatory digital ID.
Abandoning the ECHR. Abandoning the Climate Change Act. The Tories are simply Diet Reform at this point.
Kemi Badenoch has chosen the side of Vladimir Putin and Nigel Farage with her plan to leave the European Convention on Human Rights.

The ECHR is a proud British creation, championed by Churchill, that protects everyone's rights and freedoms.
"Kemi Badenoch has chosen to back Nigel Farage and join Vladimir Putin by leaving the European Convention on Human Rights – a proud British creation championed by Churchill that protects everyone's rights and freedoms.
"This will do nothing to stop the boats or fix our broken immigration system – problems caused by the last Conservative Government that Badenoch still hasn't apologised for.
"I say to former One Nation Conservatives who have been abandoned by their party’s lurch to the extremes: you have a home with us. The Liberal Democrats will always fight to defend our fundamental British freedoms and the rule of law."
Ed Davey
Labour cannot have it both ways. Starmer talks about compassion in the asylum system, and within days splits up the families of those granted asylum. This on top of forcing doctors and nurses coming here from abroad to do community work to prove that they contribute to this country. Just shameful.
Starmer to end asylum ‘golden ticket’ of resettlement and family reunion rights
People granted asylum will have to earn right to invite family in plan charities say is ‘straight from populist playbook’

Ha ha we can discuss this at the special conference they'll have to call!
I could just about cope with confidence and supply provided that we get PR.
I hope @torstenbell.bsky.social will immediately apologise for this. Yes, politics is about taking on your opponents, but comments about people's appearance and size should be out of bounds. Really disappointing to hear this from a Labour minister. 🥀
I’d rather a “fat bloke in a wetsuit” than a wet bloke with no spine
Brilliant day with the @southwarklibdems.bsky.social talking to people across London Bridge, Bermondsey and Chaucer. Thanks for everyone who took the time to speak to us!

No love for Labour here, and great to speak to so many former Labour voters now coming over to the Lib Dems! 🔶🔶
In government, the Lib Dems scrapped Labour's last authoritarian ID card scheme, and it's fallen on us to lead the fight against this reheated version.

It's illiberal, dangerous, and a waste of money when our public services are on their knees. Join our campaign!

No to Digital ID Cards!
Keir Starmer says everyone in the UK will be required to have mandatory digital ID. That’s not the kind of country we want to be. Back our petition to say no to digital ID cards.

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.
I hope this provides some reassurance! The views of the members were heard loudly and clearly over the last few days and I think that's made the difference.
Quite right. Thank you @victoria-collins.bsky.social!
BREAKING: Lib Dems say they 'cannot support a mandatory digital ID'
Great thread from @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social. Ignore the (many!) human rights concerns for a moment, but if the government's issue is with employers skipping right to work checks, then establishing a mandatory ID system for the entire country is a ridiculous and dangerous policy solution.
I have a whole range of observations about digital ID, but the main one is it's a mistake to launch a complex, measurable, highly scrutinisable infrastructure project to achieve a specific measurable target when there is no evidence that the complex project will result in the measurable outcome
And I suspect @amcarmichaelmp.bsky.social might agree with me!

I spoke this week at an event held by @bigbrotherwatch.bsky.social on their latest report on digital ID. Keir Starmer's government is reportedly aiming to introduce such a system - Big Brother Watch's report sets out the serious problems with digital ID for the UK, something liberals must resist.
With ID cards likely to be proposed tomorrow, good to see this piece on @libdemvoice.org. I (sort of) understand why @lisasmartmp.bsky.social and others are reviewing our position, but the proposals will be for mandatory ID, not voluntary, and that should be enough for us to vote against them.
ID Cards? We must be barking …
Unlike many Lib Dems I came to politics relatively late in life, but opposition to ID cards, along with the Iraq war, were absolutely key to my “Tony Blair made me a Liberal Democrat” political origin...

We are overtaking the Conservatives and on the cusp of overtaking Labour too.

More and more people are backing the Liberal Democrats to stand up to Reform and stop Trump’s America becoming Farage’s Britain.
Graphic showing polling changes: Lib Dems +3, Labour +1, Conservatives -2, Reform -1. Headline reads 'Lib Dems winning: Lib Dems overtake Conservatives in bombshell poll'.
The constant in fighting and leadership speculation was one of the most frustrating parts of the last Conservative government. Labour promised change, but only one year in, they're doing the exact same thing as the Tories. The hallmark of a party that just does not know what it stands for.
I'm still recovering from Friday's disco... I blame the DJs!
I was so proud of the party when Chris received her award. Not only is she a brilliant councillor but it showed our party's commitment to inclusion in practice. 🧡
The Express asked us about awarding the Patsy Carlton Prize to Cllr Chris Northwood. We responded:

"This prize acknowledged an exceptional woman in Cllr Chris Northwood. The message it sends to women members and voters is that the Liberal Democrats honour and value all of our women members."
