on r*ddit/4ch i often see a lot of ppl mention they don't like maiko, and i know those platforms are very male-dominated. it's so hypocritical to me when they say "katara would never date her colonizer" but they wish zuko ended up with jin. as if they even care about colonization.
it's not, it's something i barely ever see moids ship. most of its fans are girls who identify really strongly with mai. i remember seeing 4ch threads where they would seethe over zuko ending up with mai bc jin was so much better. they also love how jin has big boobs.
"zk makes no sense" ok but y'all can accept ty lee joining the kyoshi warriors, a lion turtle coming out of nowhere to give aang energybending, and the planets aligning somehow bringing back airbenders
i've seen ppl justify it as the perfect end for her character bc it "shows she learned how to accept being part of a matched set in the kyoshi warriors" and "she can switch between being an individual and a collective whenever she wants"..... uhhh sure
i have no problem with jinko but i roll my eyes when its fans say zk makes no sense. the creator of jinko loves zutara, jin got barely any screen time, jin has a boyfriend, and jin herself said that that she didn't like zuko that much and they would have never worked out.
oh they love jinko on r*ddit and they never shut up about this character with 5 min screen time that they can't even remember the name of (they always call her "earth kingdom girl" and similar)
the fandom loves making excuses for weirdness in the franchise. child marriage is legal, sokka/suki are implied to be sexually active, and bryke wanted ka to have a "deep kiss" that resembled a wedding but fans will accuse other fans of "adultifying" the characters.
and dumbasses are still saying "katara was intended to be the little sister zuko never had" like plsss they literally created a whole little sister character for zuko to bond with bc katara was never that 😭
azula had potential but they give her a mental breakdown as a plot device, and now instead of being this competent female character, she's like this hollywood parody of psyhosis that everybody treats with disdain
toph is a largely static character who gets much less focus in bk 3 after aang learns earthbending from her, suki is underwritten af, and katara is good for most of the series except for when she gets shoved into ooc romance scenes with aang which was why her final scene was insulting
saw a tt vid that critiqued katara being the only female character in the trio for bk 1 but ppl in the comments were saying "atla doesn't belong in this bc toph and suki" ok but toph doesn't join until bk 2 and suki doesn't join until the end of bk 3
they used to say "none of the writers ever wanted zutara" all the time but a lot of them have dropped that now and say "it doesn't matter if some of the writers wanted zutara bc only the creators get the final say" lmaoo
they switch up so fast. they will say va opinions don't matter but celebrate zte saying he loves katraash. they say only bryke's opinions matter bc they're the creators but then they claim they don't care what bryke say. 🤨
