I just submitted my book for peer review. After 15 years of thinking, researching, and writing, and, as I keep saying, an NEH this year to finish up. I’m furious about the gutting of that institution, which makes so much knowledge possible. I hope this book eventually lives up to that honor.

I’m here to speak up for the gay penguin book. I read about the gay dad penguins in the Central Park zoo and I really do see myself as a gay dad! They just wanted a little penguin of their own!!! So much love for little tango!!! 😭❤️🌈

Co-sign on behalf of kids! This was one of the most well-loved books in my preschool classroom. Kids with two dads or two moms felt understood & valued by it. Kids who were adopted for any reason did, too. And other kids loved the caring family and the general awesomeness of penguins!

you show me the most screamingly opposed reader reports and I WILL insist they’re not irreconcilable and are actually pushing if not for the same then for complementary ends

Just here to remind everyone that while the federal government is shutdown, all study sections at the NIH are currently on hold. Another blow to science and to early career scientists like myself with young labs and research groups. Very hard to remain positive about this career path.

‼️ The shock and horror on my face just now.

I love this chapter so much 😭
rezekjoe.bsky.social
Yes I am working on revisions to this chapter. Ironically, perhaps, as it is itself about revision!

Absolutely my favorite moment from presenting parts of my book in public was the absolute shock and almost horror on an audience member’s face when I announced that I had manually collated comparable sections of John Smith’s PROCEEDINGS (1612) with his THE GENERALL HISTORIE OF VIRGINIA (1624).

When you break the tip of the lead on your mechanical pencil, it does not fall onto the floor or into your couch to molder unnoticed for decades; instead it flies up weightlessly into the ether and becomes a beneficent lead fairie that blesses all of your good works on this earth.

I’m very pleased to be named as the next series editor for the University of Iowa Press’s Studies in Theatre History and Culture series. I’ll be working with Heather Nathans though Jan 1, 2027 and will move fully into the role on that date.

Send me your book pitches and/or I’ll come find you!

They are terrified of the No Kings rallies and doing everything they can to discredit them.

If you're on the fence about going, just think of how much it'll piss off these assholes.
