Over the last 40 years value has been extracted from the economy in an unprecedented manner. Britain has been hollowed out by neoliberalism. It is a country of haves and have nots. And it’s failing.

Unless we ditch neoliberalism our future is very bleak indeed.

Neoliberalism has failed spectacularly but it is now the economic orthodoxy of the Treasury - and this government has fallen into line.

• It’s against social support and increasing welfare spending.
• It supports privatisation.
• It supports deregulation.
• It supports measures to curtail protest.
• Reduction in the power of the Unions.

• Competition is central to neoliberalism. Greed and selfishness is the path to social improvement.
• Economic choice trumps political choice.
• It supports winners over losers.

Starmer’s ’great misjudgment’ is stark.
He failed - actually he didn’t try - to take the British people with him. Instead he ignored them, he betrayed their trust. There is no way back.
