TL;DR Silksong's act 1 was excellent. Easily one of the best Metroidvania experiences I've ever had. Looking forward to what act 2 has in store for me.
🧵40/40
I'm fighting another hostile god who is bringing a kingdom to ruin. And Hornet's nature as both weaver and demigod will play a role in this god's defeat. I'm very excited to learn more.
🧵39/40
Once again, I barely progressed the story in favor of doing side-content. However, what little I *did* progress is quite telling.
🧵38/40
I fast travelled out of there, checked in on all of the NPC settlements, then ended my stream feeling exhausted despite only playing for 6 hours.
🧵37/40
I eventually explored enough of the Choral Chambers to find a connection point to the Slab and beelined my way to its basement, where its Bellway Station is found
🧵36/40
She also makes a dig on her godly but dead father. "I've found those that claim themselves god can rarely match the title." The Pale king catching strays, it's so funny!
🧵35/40
I also encountered Lace again, who taunted Hornet about her struggles in getting to the Citadel, and how powerful her real enemy in Pharloom truly is. Hornet replies with (paraphrased) "Gods can be killed and yours is no different"
🧵34/40
But I forced myself onward, getting increasingly distressed as I uncovered more of the map without finding a Bellway Station or an exit to a familiar area. My anxious repetition of "get me out of here" was really funny in hindsight.
🧵33/40
I was spoiled that this area is definitely in the Citadel, so seeing the "Choral Chambers" title card appear kinda made me panic a bit. I did *not* want to be exploring the Citadel yet!
🧵32/40
And I learned this when I progressed far enough through the Underworks to enter the Choral Chambers, a massive cathedral filled with dust and dead bodies, where every room has the high-ceilings of a boss room, and every enemy is dressed in religious garb
🧵31/40
I later learned that the Underworks is actually *part* of the Citadel and was my required route to enter the Citadel proper, since I didn't have the movement abilities or game knowledge to take another route.
🧵30/40
At the time, I assumed I made a mistake and was being forced to explore a different area, similar to what happened when I got trapped in the Slab and had to break out.
🧵29/40
My first action in the Citadel is breaking an elevator and trapping myself in the Underworks, a massive recycling facility filled with overworked and underpaid maintenance bugs. Rancid vibes, with a hint of commentary on religious work ethic
🧵28/40
And so, with the Last Judge defeated, I enter into act 2 with a plan: First, I wanted to delve a little into the Citadel for a bench, then I wanted to dip out and see how the rest of the world changed after progressing through this major story event. However…
🧵27/40
Which is a shame, because the Last Judge is genuinely really cool. The design, the moveset, and the vibes were all immaculate. If only it had little more health and attacked faster in Phase 2. Don't tell me if there's a harder re-fight, tho! I want that to be a surprise
🧵25/40
During my winning run, I played very poorly, face-tanking a bunch of attacks, but was still able to out-DPS and win. It felt like a joke.
🧵24/40
Unfortunately, it also gives you long openings between attacks. As a result, I kinda just put on the Wanderer's Crest and went to town on it. I also put on a flame-protection blue tool which reduced the damage of the phase 2 fire AoEs.
🧵23/40
The Last Judge itself has 3 attacks: a ground-slam, a windmill-spin, and a throw-and-reel. Phase 2 also adds fire AoE and projectile components to the attacks, as well as a 4th ground-drag-charge attack that leaves pillars of fire in its wake.
🧵22/40
I think it's better when the player is forced to learn the route to the boss so well that they can do it hitless.

Anyway, Last Judge took me only 23 minutes of attempts. This includes runbacks, since I was getting back to the boss pretty quickly and reliably.
🧵21/40
That said, a flawless runback is like 30 seconds long. The runback to Nosk in HK1 took longer. Sure, Nosk's required no effort, only patience. However, I think a runback being mindless is Bad, Actually.
🧵20/40
The Last Judge is another one I've heard vague mentions of on social media, more complaining about the runback than the boss itself. Which is understandable, because you need to do some tight platforming that heavily punishes mistakes to get back to the boss
