Set in 1920s England, it follows Sarah, an unprepared tagalong helping investigate the vengeful ghost of Maddy Clare—a spirit who hated men in life and still does in death.

I wasn’t expecting so much romance in a ghost story, but the spooky vibes and slow-burn feels totally won me over.

Keri had low expectations going in (sequels aren’t usually her favorite), but Black Phone 2 exceeded them with chilling suspense, a deeper emotional core, and a strong focus on Gwen.

Set 4 years after the original, Finney and Gwen are haunted once more, through eerie calls and dreams that pull them back into danger. The film leans into the paranormal and spooky without hesitation, and the slower pace builds the real tension with the Grabber who is still scary as ever.

Seeing familiar characters again hit hard, and the emotional weight kept Keri at the edge of her seat.

This story had a promising foundation with its eerie atmosphere and the backdrop of folklore and Irish mythology. Unfortunately, the execution fell short for me. The plot twists were predictable, and the pacing felt sluggish, making it difficult to stay engaged. It might have worked better as a novella, where a tighter structure could have helped maintain momentum. As it stands, it just became forgettable despite its initial potential.

I really wanted to love this one. The premise had all the right ingredients: eerie folklore, gothic horror vibes, and a mysterious forest full of secrets.
Unfortunately, the execution just didn't land for me. The writing felt flat, the pacing dragged, and I never connected with the characters or the world. What should ve been unsettling and enchanting ended up feeling hollow and repetitive. There were glimmers of something interesting beneath the surface, but for me, it never quite found its footing.

THE FAE
The Fae are ancient, bound by rules older than the roots beneath your feet. They are neither good nor evil, only curious, and easily offended. To cross their path is to play by their laws or vanish beneath their gaze.

FAIRIES
Fairies are their sprightly kin
—smaller, brighter, and full of trickery. They dance in moonlight and laugh in riddles, but their kindness can twist like thorns.
What they give is never free.

CHANGELINGS
When the Fae take interest in the mortal world, they may leave something behind.
A changeling wears a borrowed face-a mimic of what was lost. Look too closely, and you might see the hollow behind its smile.
