Wanted to have a quick talk about my handle and artist name, rauðvik.
If you have a passing knowledge of Icelandic/Nordic languages, you‘ll see the root, "rauð-" in there, meaning "red."
"-vik" derived from the verb, "að víkja", one meaning of which is "to deviate from." /1

Cursed Castle is so good.

Throne Room is my favorite
plaguerelic.bsky.social
Cursed Castle has been listened to more times than anything else I've made so far. And I really appreciate everyone who took the time to listen. And also @etherdiver.bsky.social for having a hand in that.

Its really cool to see people enjoying the weird noises I like to make.

Stay weird, people.

Challenging is too mild a word, in my view
raudvik.bsky.social
I’m second-guessing absolutely everything and questioning the worth of everything I make.

I’m just… I’m trying.

Just wish it still felt worth it but right now, it flat-out doesn’t.

possibly getting more annoyed and bent out of shape about than I should.

I dunno… I should just be glad I’m home and - although medicated - well.

Trying to keep myself on a good path with how I feel about my art, but I’m still feeling pretty busted about that too.

It’s been a year since I last had to spend a night in a hospital bed because of my liver condition.

At least my physical condition is stable a year on.

Can’t say the same for my brain at the moment, but a lot of the contributing factors are things outside of my control that I’m

Pet is one of the few examples I can think of where my two favorite languages - German and Icelandic - actually show their similarity

youtu.be/7gmpwDLxCOs?...

If you want to hear an #opsix absolutely wail, you've come to the right place. This patch toes the line between noise and tonality, leading to something powerful, but never menacing.

I feel like I’m slowly coming over a hump here. This made me feel again.

Please go listen

to make sense of it.

Scrape this, you motherfuckers
raudvik.bsky.social
Also x2, something I’m finding about my opsix sounds in particular and really leaning in to random mods affecting the amount of modulation to the carriers (thus making them noisy at unpredictable intervals for an unpredictable amount of time), I have the suspicion that it’d be very hard for an AI

Also, how many people do you know who can take their rings off while playing and not miss a note? 😜

Video game achievement I will probably never top. I one-shotted the Guardian Ape (Headless) in Sekiro last night’s stream (the one where you have to do both of them). If you want to hear a person nervously babbling and almost losing themselves to hubris, here…

It's become fringe to actually purchase music. I encourage you to be more fringe, if you want music to survive as an art form & for people not born into wealthy/well-connected families to also pursue their calling as artists

You can have my coffee when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Also, it benefits my liver so fuck your "no nutritional value."
theatlantic.com
Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

This showcases a far more experimental and noisy side of the opsix.

Everything is odd, harsh, and at times unrelenting.

The soundscapes are meant to tell the story of crashing onto a dead alien world, and eventually succumbing to the elements

Since I’m in an #opsix mood, here are two album recommendations for today.

This is lovely, lush, conventionally pretty, but imbued with a great sadness (given the title is "difficult farewells", I’ll let you draw your own conclusions)

Masking with a respirator in public is the biggest litmus text of being antifascist there is.

If you are not doing this the real ones do not trust you.

For me, it was finding out my partner had a microKorg shortly after we got together, and yeah… haven’t looked back

Leave it to the opsix to help me feel something again while working and noodling in front of a synthesizer

What are we working on today?

Glad you asked

Last week’s mission was Operation Word of Mouth.

This week, something different.

If you have supported my Bandcamp in any way throughout the past year, please take a few moments and write a review.

Not for me, but for others to know what they’re about to listen to.
