Eggers' legacy - East Tyrol and art

Albin Egger-Lienz! Whether it's the Dance of Death, the Mountain Reaper, or the Sower, his works fetch millions at auction. A large portion of his Expressionist paintings can be seen in the museum in Lienz, East Tyrol. His work influenced subsequent generations: this small Tyrolean district boasts an exceptionally high concentration of artists. Jos Pirkner, Hans Salcher, Michael Hedwig, and numerous other regional artists can all be considered Egger's artistic heirs.

Scythe forging & traditional seed production and seed extraction

Since 2009, UNESCO has protected many well-known and unknown cultural activities in Austria as intangible cultural heritage. These include traditional festivals, special craft techniques, and musical performances. Over 100 entries can be found in the UNESCO list, with new ones added annually.

The documentary showcases two examples of intangible cultural heritage and introduces people who passionately keep this heritage alive and pass it on to future generations. It is a journey through regional customs, outside the mainstream and beyond superficial public interest.

I learned in that moment, little seven year old me learned, that I'm burdensome to other people, I'm a freak. It established the basis for the rest of my relationships for the rest of my life, those moments there. I formed a solution to never happen again.

A documentary produced in super-8 with a mixture of fiction. It caused a stir wherever it was shown, having to be subjected to the censorship in force at the time of the military regime. It poetically addresses the various prejudices and conflicts that involve the field of sexuality. Two men star in love scenes. Testimonials by Lauro Nascimentos, Eleonora Menicucci, João Silvério Trevisan, Henrique Magalhães and popular people about conflicts involving affection between people of the same sex.

“Two Men and a Woman” by Gaetano Donizetti: our review
What do great composers do? They compose. That is, all the time, morning, noon, and night, including holidays. However, in 1841, while living in Paris, Gaetano Donizetti found himself, for at least an hour, idle. Compassionate, fate brought him into contact with Gustave Vaëz, who had participated in the writing of two of his operas. The Italian hastened to commission him to write a short, comic piece. Once he received the manuscript, he wrote Two Men and a Woman in eight days, then moved on to something else, and it was after his death that the work was discovered.

The plot? Thin but clever. Instead of the traditional wife-husband-lover trio, she substitutes an abusive matron and two idiots.

Certainly much has been said about the impact of Patti Smith’s debut album. Her’s how Rolling Stone described it in naming it No. 44 on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time:

From its first defiant line, “Jesus died for somebody’s sins, but not mine,” the opening shot in a bold reinvention of Van Morrison‘s Sixties garage-rock classic “Gloria,” Patti Smith‘s debut album was a declaration of committed mutiny, a statement of faith in the transfigurative powers of rock & roll. Horses made her the queen of punk before it even really existed, but Smith cared more for the poetry in rock. She sought the visions and passions that connected Keith Richards and Rimbaud – and found them, with the intuitive assistance of a killing band (pianist Richard Sohl, guitarist Lenny Kaye, bassist Ivan Kral and drummer Jay Dee Daugherty).

Artists from Siouxsie and the Banshees to Michael Stipe, the Smiths to Courtney Love have all made clear the influence and impact this album had upon them.

The Name of the Rose
Following the success of its April 2025 premiere at Teatro alla Scala, Francesco Filidei's new opera "The Name of the Rose" will premiere. Based on Umberto Eco's novel of the same name, the production was commissioned by the Milanese theater along with the Opéra National de Paris. Directed by Damiano Michieletto, the production is a co-production of Teatro alla Scala, the Opéra National de Paris, and the Carlo Felice Theater in Genoa. The main cast includes Kate Lindsey, en travesti as Adso da Melk, Lucas Meachem as William of Baskerville, Gianluca Buratto as Jorge de Burgos, Daniela Barcellona, also en travesti as the Inquisitor Bernardo Gui, Roberto Frontali as Salvatore, and Carlo Vistoli as Berengario da Arundel and Adelmo da Otranto. The sets are by Paolo Fantin, the costumes by Carla Teti, the lighting by Fabio Barettin, the dramaturgy by Mattia Palma and the choreography by Erika Rombaldoni.

the Statue of Liberty is surrounded by scaffolding. This was part of a large-scale conservation and restoration effort that took place between 1984 and 1986, to be finished before the Statue's 100 year anniversary in 1986, with the intention of making the icon last into the next century.
