Unbelievably, literally the day after I posted this, my son has come home clutching a letter for a £4,600 trip to Kenya. He’s pretty upset I have said no

Inexplicably, my son’s very standard state school - in a mixed area, not a particularly affluent one - arranged a £4K trip to Kenya last year. I keep meaning to do a story on the astonishing escalation of the school trip.

Most central banks purchases are NOT in the official data. The World Gold Council has them in its 'unreported' series (reproduced by the ECB, the Fed, everyone)

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

As it should be. And it’s only what China did. I hope they’re aggressive enough with it

Another way to view that is that men haven't evolved at all or only slightly whereas women have as the times have changed - which by the way is how evolution is supposed to work whether we're talking about plants or humans

And I kinda expect the Conservative members to just have bad faith or economically illiterate arguments but the Libdems haven't covered themselves in glory either.
Also, do they actually engage with anything of substance or do they just rot their brains on Twitter and newspapers opinion pages?

You have very good people giving evidence & patiently explaining in terms that an educated 10y old would understand & then you have various members of the committee not listening at all & just being walking examples ‘but it might work for us meme’

No wonder the county is in the state it is

Some very useful stuff here on a topic where there’s a lot of froth and bad research.

Basic truth is Gen Z men in the UK are simply not more right wing - in attitudes or voting behaviour - than older generations. They are less.

Most of the intra-gen divide is young women getting more progressive.

They always start with free speech. It sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Free speech? And they can use it to shut down anyone who criticises them, because it’s all “free speech”

After “free speech” it’s “protecting women and girls”

And then it’s whatever they actually wanted.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

Whilst IBCS is subject to ITAR, there's still no fully equivalent European system. With IBCS you can get input from various US & European radars and shooters and this is very good when you've got so many different systems in Europe.

Tough choice for Germany, Denmark and UK

Not just Canada with this predicament: continue ordering just F-35 or accept mixed fleet

Things could get interesting (also because of SAFE money) : European 4.5 generation fighter jets might get a look in, specifically Saab's Gripen E.

Yes AND the right has really run with some canonical things associated w/leftist organizing — they regularly reference Alinsky, for example. The learnings don’t seem to go in the opposite direction.

@himself.bsky.social’s post (linked in Matt’s tweet, which I also read today) is worth a read.

It would be a great idea for the left to learn right-wing organizing techniques.

This doesn't happen because left elites cannot distinguish between ideological deficiency and political prowess.

They wrongly suppose that bc righties have dumb policy ideas, they must have stupid organizing ideas.

The electricity system is the largest commodity supply chain in the world that doesn’t feature storage. Every technology benefits from storage (esp Solar/Nuclear).

Top 1% of peak hours are 8% of your bill. Top 10% of hours are 40% of your bill
Batteries provide more tools to flatten out peaks.

Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved.

Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning.

So the breach at Land Rover is linked to it using the same company for cyber/security (Tata Group) as have M&S and Coop and others.
