The updated COVID/histamine link thread because people keep tagging me in to explain it and I keep intending to update the post from 2023 (synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/805203.html) and just not having the capacity because of my own health shit so here is a thread I can pin

I mostly am at the point where I need to get someone to actually figure out the underlying cause of WHY my veins are collapsed (there are two major possibilities) and how to fix it, but both of the two major possibilities are Controversial (tm) so you have to get the right doctor

Unfortunately not effective on this kind of nausea because it's due to direct brain fuckery! The scopolamine patch is working just fine, though, since it actually crosses the blood/brain barrier and works on a lot of the spots of my parasympathetic nervous system that are freaking out right now

It's all good, babe. Wishing you relief

I adore how we all can still be surprised by the game, heh

Basically PayPal's success made a lot of horrendous people very rich and convinced them they were geniuses instead of just lucky and we've all been paying for it since

Take a look at some of the names here (and what they've done since) and it should be a little clearer: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal_...

You have to include a picture of his mom doing his laundry as part of the hat design, though

Definitely automated in some fashion, the punchcard rarely lies
A 3-week punchcard showing times of activity on the site. The actions are slightly less frequent during the wee hours EST, but only slightly; it's way too regular to be authentic human activity

Many of y'all have heard me say this, but my answer for the "within your own lifetime" variant of this question is that I have a detailed and practical plan to time travel back to replace my past self to set up the conditions such that PayPal never achieves success because that fixes SO MUCH

Over drinks with fellow archaeologists at a conference some decades ago, we discussed who we would hypothetically time travel to remove from history. Columbus and Calvin were the two universally chosen. Hitler was nearly unanimous but one person thought removing Goebbles was better.

ALSO. ALSO. Needing us to find Europeans who condemned him for his actions at the time--and there are many! So many! My God so many!--is also some white supremacist bullshit, because the TAINO PEOPLE HE WAS MURDERING CERTAINLY CONDEMNED HIM FOR IT AND THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS OF HIS TIME TOO.

It's the most frequent way I rediscover the ancient law: the drugs only work if you take them

(As usual: baseball nerds, this is an oversimplification, I'm just trying to get the gist across)

If the ball is still live, you have to either tag the runner or have the baseman tag the base they're headed to for it to be an out. The umpire signaled the ball was still live but the runners didn't notice and nobody knew what to do, basically!
rahaeli.bsky.social
It kinda is and kinda isn't! What you are looking at there is a one in a million play where the guy catching the ball caught it but it bounced out of his glove and hit the wall: if he'd caught it and kept it, everyone would have been out, but the bounce meant it was still "live"

Absolutely freaking wild (and I love the center fielder's "wtf" face lol)
rahaeli.bsky.social
The maximum recommended daily dose is 10mg, so a single extra one shouldn't do you any harm in the short term!

Anyway, the nausea and vomiting is not a new symptom but it being this nonstop is, so I hit the point where I said "I cannot eat without throwing up, I am putting on this scopolamine patch" a few days ago and it actually helped

(Hopkins neuro is truly world-class in "weird shit" ... once you can get through the gatekeepers. Which is extremely fucking difficult, because they don't want to deal with anything that isn't "weird shit" and you have to exclude all the basic shit before they'll see you)
rahaeli.bsky.social
Thanks! I am actually making SOME progress (I have an actual thing that shows on actual scans and explains my symptoms now!) but for my sins I am cursed with having to deal with Johns Hopkins neurology, sigh
rahaeli.bsky.social
I posted a boost asking for recs and deliberately turned off comments and didn't QP you so hopefully you won't get a million recommendations that don't fit the requirements, heh

PDX disabled folks: @kateviolette.com is looking for a GP who is accustomed to working with complex patients who have excellent knowledge of their own condition, and who is used to coordinating with specialists from all over: anyone have a rec? (Comments disabled so you go tell them, not me!)

Ultimate root cause: my internal cervical jugular veins are collapsed and causing a gajillion horrid symptoms and I'm on Month 10 of my quest to get someone other than my excellent and amazing GP to care
Proximate cause: cerebral venous outflow insufficiency can cause really bad nausea/vomiting
