when I was 13 playing Oblivion on my brothers computer I found out you could swap the in game music by just dropping mp3s in a folder so i just filled it with whatever, which was my brothers downloaded music, anyway the main battle theme was Love Me by Lil Wayne Future and Drake

these days whenever i hear “I’m off that good kush and alcohol” i am immediately transported to the arboreal splendor of Cyrodil

overall i think more people should give this a shot. ditch the services for even a bit and you’ll find you probably dont rely on them as much as you might think

you dont need a dedicated player too, i know its inconvenient to lug a second device around. if you’re on iOS, you have the option to sync local media via finder or itunes. android is a little less integrated but you’ve got media players like VLC that allow you to transfer content over the network

does buying your music seem more expensive at first? let’s break it down

- buying albums/singles nets the artist a bigger cut
- owning your library physical/digital allows you to consume your media how you want
- you’re not constantly paying for a service. got the music you like? its yours forever

more and more i think my point about owning your library becomes more prevalent. you can’t rely on streaming services and when you can, they might just support the dehumanisation and torture of people like you and me
