Summary:

The third thing he notices, as Temenos closes the heavy door behind them and sets the bar in place, is the giant stained glass window. Situated at the cathedral's centre, it overlooks the holy altar and the rows of pews stretching far back. He has looked upon it many times before, but never before has it seemed to look back. Even where he stands, far from it in the entrance hall, Crick feels the window and its intricate patterning watching him like an eye.

His stomach turns nervously. "Are you sure about this?"

"Quiet. You dare speak without permission in the house of Aelfric, sinner?"

After their last little game, Crick has a new idea. Temenos, of course, indulges him.

We report: the humidity and the wind are working together so that walking out felt like a cold shower. We sucked in a breath and went back in to get a scarf. The cirrus overhead had that perfectly incomprehensible, chaotic quality to them, unraveling and colliding at every turn.

We report on the morning after the storm: we were woken up with hail showers in the night, and the south wind rattled the tiles on the roof in a way we had not heard before. It is still windy, but it is the kind of wind that chases clouds away instead of stirring up a tempest.
