The point of these protests over time is that in order for something like a mass collective action to work, it actually has to be "mass". These protests are helping to move people from fence-sitters to participants. Unless you *know* critical mass will strike, a strike won't work. Gotta build it 1st

When folks say, "protest won't stop X from happening," I remind them that's not really what they're for. For me, the most important effect of these protests is seeing how many people agree something's wrong. That's even more important in rural areas where you might assume everyone likes Trump still.

Sure thing! There are more of us than the tyrants and they have to play whack-a-mole trying to quash us. For every tracking app they remove, for every protest they decry, more will spring up in their place. With a diversity of tactics and standing together, we'll get through this. ✊🏴🚩🇺🇸

Gentle reminder that folks should start neighborhood groups on something like Signal. It's encrypted and not owned by any of the sycophantic tech co's. Here's a good video on how you can reach out to your neighbors to build community and mutual aid: www.youtube.com/shorts/3IMPT...
I started a neighborhood support group on Signal (And you can too)

4/ And for anyone who likes that quote, "If voting mattered, they wouldn't let you do it" - why do you think they're trying so hard to take it away, then, eh?
Voting is the least effective thing you can do, but that doesn't mean it's INeffective. You should vote, then get out in your community. 😤✊

2/ That's by design. Because voter fraud is so low, this would end up blocking more US Citizens - of many backgrounds, even some Republicans - from the franchise. At a time where the Trump admin is illegally dismantling gvmt and mislabeling dissent as terrorism, it would be even worse.

1/ You have until October 20th to comment against Stephen Miller's "America First Legal" and their petition to require a passport or Real ID to vote nationwide.

Voter fraud is < 0.0001%. This'd only make it harder for citizens without ID to vote - nothing more.

And in case anyone wants to read the other side of his "cancellation", here's an archive of the thread from Birkbeck Students Anti-Racist Network: web.archive.org/web/20210523...

After Shaun's meticulous tear-down of "The War on Science", I'm even more skeptical when profs say "I was cancelled".

Dear Washington, we have the second most regressive tax system in the nation and it's because our Constitution won't let us do progressive income tax. If you don't like being taxed at a higher rate than software devs like me, you gotta speak up! Sales tax is the literal worst option. Amend it!

The dumbest part about this is many projects have funding going to Trump voting districts, and some cross state lines into "red" states. The Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub was headed for red counties in WA, OR, and MT.
Obvi not the first example of this, but I keep hoping it'll wake some folks up.

Going all the way to the top and walking down the spiral stacks is my favorite part.

9/ He wanted *every* child to feel welcome in the neighborhood.

Remember: when you're scared, look for the helpers. You'll always find people helping. And if you're able, BE one of the helpers.

I like you just the way you are. 143 🤟

8/ His kindness was formed in his childhood. His parents, especially his mother, were incredibly generous with their wealth and set that example of charity for him. But he was also bullied as a child and knew how awful that felt and wanted no one else to feel that.

He wanted NO ONE to feel that.

7/ I liked it so much I bought the book and pulled out a highlighter. It’s basically going to be like a gospel where, instead of the words being red to indicate those are the ones Jesus said, it will be yellow highlight for anything Mr. Rogers said.

6/ was Fred Rogers.

Last month, I listened to “The Good Neighbor” by Maxwell King. It’s the biography of Fred Rogers and y’all...he was SUCH a kind man. Positive masculinity embodied. If you want to be reminded how impactful kindness - and inclusion - is, I cannot recommend this book more highly.

5/ A man who congress honored shortly after his death by passing a resolution memorializing his life, achievements, and positive impact on the world.
That man…

4/ A man whose words were so dangerous that people called for his cancellation and have attempted to re-frame him as detrimental to the youth since his death.
A man whose birthday is recognized and celebrated as a day to remember his legacy and try to emulate it in his honor.

3/ in congress and the presidency.
A man who received the highest US civilian honor: the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
A man whose influence caused rumors to swirl that he wasn’t actually sincere in his public persona, that he was a different person in private and it was just a way to get rich.

2/ and around the world.
A man who listened to young people, answered their questions, and engaged with them respectfully, on their level.
A man who was secure in his masculinity.
A man who, through his own example, encouraged all of us to be better.
A man whose reach even influenced politicians

From an essay I wrote (includes an #antifascistBookclub recommendation):

"In Memoriam, or: about what happened last month..."

1/ A great American hero is dead.
He was a man whose deeply-held Christian faith informed how he spoke to millions of young people in America

No car? No problem! I've turned my bike into a propaganda mobile. Making good use of the mail from a Seattle for @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social .
I 🚴Wilson for Mayor!

(Okay, I do have a car, but I drive it like once a month so it's not good for propagandizing)
A close up of the back of my bike. It has a pride flag, a trans pride flag, a bumper sticker that says "bikes not bombs" and a mailer with a photo of Katie Wilson talking with two masc-presenting folks that says "Katie Wilson for Seattle Mayor"
