i don't think it's puritanism as much as it is that setting boundaries around drugs is a bit harder when they affect your cognitive processing, whether it's the rper on drugs or the character. sex/romance themes can have clear boundaries, but when intoxication is brought into the equation-

I think one of the best things you can do for yourself is trying playing games that might not be "good" but are "interesting".

There's a lot of stuff out there that doesn't follow the rules, doesn't fit into convention but by god does it just try stuff or stand out in their own weird way

i have spoken to indie devs that have applied for local markets and shops and have been rejected, local game stores very VERY rarely if EVER have local indie games (have never heard of this happening)

i have NEVER seen a local game store have local indie games, even in NY.

the thing is, that's not new to comics.
local comic stores have stuff from local artists all the time. local music shops, cafes, bars have things from local musicians. local artists and craftsmen have craft fairs

local indie devs have nothing. and we are often rejected from our few options.
