Oh! We need to do a pinned intro post! OK, here goes.

We're a fiercely independent bookstore with locations in Cambridge & Boston. On BlueSky we focus on introducing you to books & authors you're unlikely to encounter otherwise. Here are the books we're excited about at the moment!

I was lucky to get my preorder of Read This When Things Fall Apart, edited by @mskellymhayes.bsky.social, early - thanks, @portersqbooks.bsky.social! - and it's exactly as incredible as I had expected.

I highly, highly recommend it to anyone struggling with *gestures broadly at everything.*
A hand holds the book Read This When Things Fall Apart: Letters to Activists in Crisis by Kelly Hayes. The cover is dark blue and has an illustration of a person swimming in a lake at night beneath a full moon. In the background, behind the book, are shelves of books in a bookstore.

Success! I just found holiday presents for three different friends at @portersqbooks.bsky.social - two books, one art print.

I love being able to knock out a big chunk of my holiday shopping while just poking around one of my favorite bookstores!

A thread like this needs a thoughtful conclusion and that thought is: Fuck Christopher Columbus and fuck everyone who celebrates him.

Storytelling is a source of power. Sharing stories changes minds, guides actions, creates connections, & builds community. Reading lists share stories, of course, but also can be an act of storytelling themselves. So here is a reading list & story for #IndigenousPeoplesDay...

6. Finally, spread the joy of reading. Talk about the books you're reading. Read to your kids. Read with your friends. Join a book club. One power of literature is showing the many many different ways people can live happy fulfilling lives. Help that power reach as many people as possible.

5. Push for Right to Read legislation in your state. Right to Read laws protect public libraries and school libraries from the attacks we have been seeing. And yes, it doesn't matter how liberal your state may be, your state needs it...

4. Stay on top of local politics! A lot of these decisions are made by library boards, school boards, and city councils. We need people who support the right to read on these boards & councils and keeping track of what these boards & councils do...

3. Connect with freedom to read advocacy groups like @authorsabb.bsky.social @massaabb.bsky.social @abfefreeexpression.bsky.social @freedomreadproject.bsky.social @uabookbans.bsky.social & more. These organizations will help you find actions you take both locally & nationally...

1. Keep books by living authors from the communities and identities being attacked circulating by buying them, donating them to little free libraries, & checking them out from public libraries. Stories are powerful but they need to spread through society to exercise that power...

I've heard the book is good. Support independent booksellers.

We just need you to know that a number of people besides booksellers here have bought Schattenfroh. That number is 1, but it's still a number of people. portersquarebooks.com/book/9781646...
