How it started, how it’s going. 2 months later, the bay window that was a second-hand reclaimed addition in 1831 has been stripped back, restored, & today finally re-puttied. It looks a bit sharper, despite its 200+ age.

Worth looking out for as you move pots and other stuff around the garden. I see more on land than in the pond in spring.

In breeding season male common newts are darker with spots & small crest on their tails; females may be darker than this one, but lack spots & crested tail. They also have a smooth cloaca while males have a more swollen cloaca. Out of breeding season the females are possibly paler. Cute aren’t they.

I think you might be in the UK, if so, it’s a female common newt (Lissotriton vulgaris).

A reminder that the PhD program for EMBL is open for winter recruitment round. If you want to understand life at a molecular level and have a quantitative science (you don't have to have done biology - we love our mathematicians/physcists/chemists!) apply www.embl.org/about/info/e...

Makes you wonder why they ever did. Not sure what species these are, but there is a lot of them on the move right now. It’s unseasonably warm at the moment, but will get cold soon enough.

Another big goose day. Honk Honk.

Yes, I don’t understand why people see the need to repost tweets here. If we want to see that, we could go to Twitter.

I’m also selective, and had some
lovely long standing interactions before BlusSky, but can’t understand why people are still endorsing & supporting what the other place has become.

It is quiet, quite a few who opened accounts here seem to have reverted back. I can’t understand why, other than to maintain their followers who didn’t see a reason to leave.
