Effects included the natural emergence of a virtual watercooler effect, activity and social context-based VR platform switching, and a creation process highlighting how essential community-led collaboration is in creating authentic and transformative VR experiences.
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬
This exploratory study observed fascinating new interactions in using multi-platform social VR.
This in-depth development process helped to create a more complete and engaging transformative learning experience.
We used a community-led iterative design model to realize an authentic and engaging VR activity that could be embedded within a remote-synchronous workshop alongside more traditional learning activities such as videos, discussions, and presentations.
We interviewed and analyzed to understand the challenges around gender diversity in the trades and to create an engaging workshop to highlight them.

The focus of this research began with strong collaboration between @carletonu.bsky.social researchers and Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology’s diversity and inclusion, teaching and learning services, and journalism departments.
