i tried to skim it and this isn't my area but from what I can tell

All authorities (funding, transfer powers, conditions, waivers) in a CR expire the moment the CR itself expires.

so the transfer authority expired.

i have no idea how any of this works

if you want the specifics you could check out:

GAO, Principles of Federal Appropriations Law, 3rd ed., ch. 8, “Continuing Resolutions,” GAO-06-382SP

and

The demographic Americans find second most compelling when seen in protests are veterans.

The first is clergy

If this is so, which it is, if it is to be said- so it be— so it is.

Wired: vibes

Starting in the the late 70s, the parties did what political scientists had been begging them to do for decades - and began to sort themselves based on vibes

When the biblical David composed a song, he was something of a slinger-songwriter

That is no mere smoothie.

That is Erewhon, son of Erethon. You owe it your allegiance.

The most frustrating part of this is that a federal judge literally made a finding of fact of the evidence presented by the administration, a judge appointed by Trump, and that judge called the narrative untethered to facts, and the narrator, unreliable.

Should the New York Times be sold to Pennysaver and its editors sent to work in Amazon warehouses? It depends on who you ask.

I'm almost positive I'm cribbing from american political scientist Sean Theriault, who i feel like wrote almost that exact sentence, but ideology instead of vibes, but the closest i can find is this from his 2008 book

Theriault, S. M. (2008). Party Polarization in Congress. Cambridge Univ Press.

Advocacy serves the whole population, and requires idealism and acknowledging the shortcomings of the current realities
peterlucier.bsky.social
I think of the distinction as between case work and advocacy, and both are needed

Case work accepts the world, advocacy fights for the world as it should be.

Case work serves a client the duty to them requires pragmatism and acknowledging realities

Yeah I should have been clearer in what I was meaning to be as the target of my ire here.

It’s not CJ. Promoting what incremental relief is available and focusing on harm mitigation is absolutely valuable and admirable

When elites or policy makers can insulate themselves from, or rationalize the cost of policies, the poor and vulnerable suffer

In the Afghan immigration and refugee / SIV world, I’d often get asked: but YOUR people are ok, right?

Or in the early days well-connected people would pull strings for THEIR people and then be able to say, well if MINE got out then surely all the worthy did, and things are mostly fair and ok
peterlucier.bsky.social
There is a cost insulation mechanism, a defensive projection of the mind, that wants to believe: things may be bad, but those who really need or deserve it will be ok. The worst will be avoided. Surely there’s a program…

To that, I say: recall that the admin is trying to get rid of commissaries

Oh Mikey baby, I dont hate America.

I love America.

Enough to fight for her.

Have done it before over there.

Will do it again here on the 18th.

You can’t have America, Mike, and turn it into something selfish, ugly, and hateful.

Not without a fight. See you out there.

Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, I'm a very patient guy, but I've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ... "

District court judges, well the district court level, is the fact finding level. The finders of facts.

And facts are anathema to the regime and their heavy handed consolidation attempts.

The final most essential command: to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears

“More than three dozen federal judges have told The New York Times that the Supreme Court’s flurry of brief, opaque emergency orders in cases related to the Trump administration have left them confused about how to proceed in those matters and are hurting the judiciary’s image with the public.”

You ever feel like the universe has a limited number of extras to cast in the movie of your life, and so in the later seasons you are just seeing people recycled into roles that don’t really make sense, but hey what do you want, this is a low budget production?
