I particularly laughed at the lack of conscience available amongst Govt MPs. Seems they are the last ones to notice
Last week, a conscience vote on a Government bill fell over

Meanwhile, the regime's "redress scheme" for abuse in care - a crime against humanity - requires criminal background checks and a presumption against any redress for serious sexuala nd violent offenders (which the state created with its abuse) www.legislation.govt.nz/bill/governm...

Fwiw, red clover has been incredibly important to NZ agriculture for over a century

It fixes nitrogen (reducing dependence on fertilizers), it is (fairly) drought resistant (extending the grazing season), and it is a good quality stock feed (in moderation). And popular with bees.

Alternatively, people could realise that road cones are a red herring, and are not the reason NZ has increasing debt, increasing unemployment, low productivity

The Government may need to “adapt” its strategy for this war on road cones, van Velden said, after being asked to respond to new research,

And now, Fonterra has sold the parts of their business that added value to our milk production - while we take all the consequences of the high production

Minister Seymour may claim NZ has the most productive farmers, but once farmers in Niger Delta were told the same by the oil companies

"Climate Change Minister Simon Watts said the government remained committed to New Zealand's climate change commitments "

So committed that "The Government has almost halved New Zealand’s target for reducing the emission of climate-warming methane gas"
pete0.bsky.social
"It would rely heavily on possible scientific solutions to reduce methane emissions"

This is 100% lobbyist talking point.

NZ needs a Chief Science Officer who will bring so reality to those conversations, rather than relying on the scientific interpretation of Todd McLay and Simon Watts

This is the first year I have sat down and asked AI to create profiles of each for the candidates and their historical activities

It's vulnerable to anyone who has cleansed their timeline, but for someone not on FB or Twitter, and who has spent hours doing this manually in the past, this was great

Yeah, that campaign stuff about a return to localism, and less centralized power didn't last long after people voted.

I find that funny from a Govt that keeps saying Councils weren't the right kind of democracy if they didn't hold referendums on Maori wards

“Shane Jones throws a tantrum that anyone else or any other body can make rules for the fishing industry that is bribing the shit out of him, and demands that all authority over fisheries be placed in his hands so he can make more money”

- Corrected the headline
pete0.bsky.social
The arrogance of the Council using the law to get things done. No wonder Shane Jones is upset.

The slight irony is, that like so many of Coalition policies, when the Govt chose amended the RMA in 2023 and 2024, the Govt circumvented review by the Govts Ministry of Regulation

“With COVID, vaccines, Lyme disease, any of it — I’m not your enemy,” I told my seatmate as we were getting ready to disembark. “And I know you’re not the enemy, either.”
“True,” he agreed. “But they always want to make someone your enemy.”

Two lessons I have learnt from the local body elections
- sometimes in a democracy there is no real choice
- being able to use AI made selecting candidates so much faster than previous years of reviewing to try to figure out which of them is a nut job

A beautiful Freudian slip there at 0:46

"We will not be delivering"

At least she was honest there. Increasing Crown debt by $27.7 billion in six months while cutting services, and not having a pandemic to worry about is definitely "not delivering"
pete0.bsky.social
And despite all those claims in 2023 of being open and evidence based, "The prime minister says he's "really comfortable" with the public not knowing the reoffending rate for the coalition's pilot boot camp programme"

Time the PM read the Abuse in Care executive summary. And kept to his word
pete0.bsky.social
This is the same PM who said:

"I don't care what you say about whether it does or doesn't work. We can have that intellectual conversation all day long, but we are, dammit, going to try something different because we cannot carry on getting the results that we've been getting (sic)."
pete0.bsky.social
A comparison:

20% reoffending vs 70% reoffending
No prizes for guessing which one our PM supports

Our kids are too important to be political pawns. Our PM needs to realise that some of them may not actually move to Australia, and these are our future citizens

Hey remember when Brooke van Velden pretended she was really shocked to be called a cunt about stealing women's money and made a big song and dance of it in Parliament? But it didn't work and none of us forgot that she stole our money?

Thinking about that for no reason in particular #nzpol

In 1984, the Govt altered what Truth was through historical revisionsim, doublethink and the use of language and fear.

NZ is showing that it works.
The US is showing what happens
