I think there are lots of lessons for Democrats & opponents of autocratization in the U.S. from how the Turkish opposition has recently found its feet after years of losing. Reject polarization & have a positive message are two. Avoid violence is a third.

A forerunner was Pikachu in the Istanbul protests after the President had jailed his main political rival, the mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, in March. Pikachu aligned with the opposition’s relentless rejection of the regime’s polarization to instead focus on a positive message.+

What I am extremely allergic to, however, is the “shut up and get in line” spirit in the Democratic Party, which silenced legitimate criticism of Biden & brought us the much too late Biden withdrawal & subsequent election loss.

Even though you’re being a bit rude, I agree with your sentiment. Too many have been complaining about Dems not fighting GOP authoritarianism, instead of complaining about GOP authoritarianism. Winning the Shutdown fight could change that.

I was actually not just thinking about the U.S. It’s disconcerting to have such a brilliant orator with a fascist background. Does she have a liberal counterpart in Europe? Stubb or Kallas maybe?

As for Dems, I’m glad they’re fighting now & have been lauding fighters like Sen Murphy for some time.

Whoa, my comment was more intended as a lighthearted “I wish she were on our side!” You’re right that there are good speakers I thought the Menendez speech was good. I’m always impressed by Gov Pete, and Obama was of course one of the greatest orators of our generation.
