one doesn't have to love capitalism to live in a capitalist country. And regardless, I'm a democratic socialist. I believe in things like universal healthcare, livable wages, affordable housing and transport.

I just choose not to ignore the evils committed by communism in practice.

Vietnam is communist only insofar as it's a one-party state with a lot of state ownership of services. the driving force of the economy is private, capitaist enterprise and hence the reason why it's sliding further into modernity. As for why I'm here, I love the people, food, and excitement.

Nah, my grandfather was a dirt-poor truck driver born in Northern Ireland in 1916.

You're the only person I'll bother replying to: that was a pretty good one.

My circle of people in real life is fairly small for obvious reasons, I just know that the people leading these conversations online are causing way more harm than good.

It's akin to saying the swastika is just a symbol of European unity. It's absurd, head-in-the-sand refusal to accept historical fact.
paulheadleynba.bsky.social
And the swastika is just a Buddist/Hindu symbol for good fortune. Just because you refuse to acknowledge a combination of barbarity and incompetence led to the deaths of tens of millions of people doesn't change the symbol's significance.

Please enlighten me on the real history. Whitewashed is a hilarious term to use given the central power involved was the Soviet Union lol. I live in Vietnam, and I'm from Ireland. I'm not American.

What a wonderful human being.

Lmao. Speaking of pictures, what a hideous trio. Why post this?
Ugly ass family.

Heads up mate, your ma says your supper is ready upstairs
paulheadleynba.bsky.social
Ok, sir. As a coward unwilling to put your real name or picture on the internet, you definitely deserve my respect.

I'm neither American nor convinced America is a "good" guy
paulheadleynba.bsky.social
Only a moron of spectacular ignorance would make such a statement.

The culture revolution was based actually. Landlords and roaders deserved it.

The best historical analogy for the current climate on the left is Mao's Cultural Revolution. Student-led, fueled by the most dangerous human emotion (resentment), Ideologues at its center, stripping society of its past, zero tolerance for dissent.

It boggles my mind that the hammer and sickle is considered a socially acceptable symbol, but then braindead people probably find history difficult to digest.

I like Bluesky, but it IS very totalitarian in what is and isn't permitted as an opinion. If the app ever starts rewarding like-seeking behavior it'll get way worse.

We all know it's surface-level BS because we are all in group chats where tongues are free. "I'd never say that on the TL!'

Deciding that YOU, your group, or your party are to be the arbiter of free speech is a dangerous game to play, and the worst elements of both sides of the spectrum are playing it.

And yes I'm both-siding an issue again because I can see both sides throwing their toys out of the stroller.

Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

paulheadleynba.bsky.social
Probably. Already seeing it with student deportations. However, the left really needs to look in the mirror at its own totalitarian impulses because they are becoming more and more pronounced and destructive.

There is a real possibility that Charlie Kirk’s death will serve as a pretext for authoritarian purges.

And our political culture does not have much experience with that. Mainstream reporters and politicians are not in the habit of recognizing or naming it.
paulheadleynba.bsky.social
I don't know where I stand anymore. I'm left on almost every debate but "the left" online is every bit as destructive and obnoxious and incoherent as the extreme right now and I kinda hate them all
paulheadleynba.bsky.social
Some people have never spent time in the company of truly frightening and dangerous people. It's the only explanation for posts of this kind.

Living in a fantasy Ideology-land without access to experience or history books.

In fairness, I'd say Coldplay rob more folk of the horn than they inspire

Bill's reign was great if you didn't care about single mothers or gay rights or the bombing campaigns to distract from his philandering. Yup, just swell.
