Even if they weren’t idiots, it’s not clear what they could do. Thus far, *no* policy that’s been tried by countries with below-replacement fertility — which is basically every country in the developed world, plus China and others — has had more than modest, transient success in raising birth rates

We do, in fact, need to address the issue of below-replacement birthrates in the US and other developed countries. It’s a real and serious problem that could have catastrophic effects on national economies, social welfare systems, etc.

But these gobshites are exactly the wrong people to do that.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, there are midterm elections next year. What this accomplishes is reminding politicians that they’ll be losing their jobs in large numbers if they don’t start standing up to Trump.
