Time for the west coast to secede. And the northeast too probably. See how the rest of the country survives without blue state money.

Teeniest bit of Piper at the Gates of Dusk news. I’ve seen the page proofs (which is always ridiculously exciting, as it’s the first time it looks like a book and not a manuscript), and I can tell you that it’s 378 pages long. Boring news, but I love things like page counts.

On November 5, there’ll be a charity screening of A Monster Calls at the Arzner Cinema in London (SE1), London’s only queer cinema! I’ll be doing a q&a after, and all proceeds go to Queer London. Join me!

It’s National Coming Out Day for all the letters of the rainbow. It’s a huge risk for anyone, but if you can, we need you more than ever. And there’s an army of us here to back you up, you beauty.

Ah no, I loved Diane Keaton. Drat. Rest in peace, you glorious eccentric.

Also - and this is true - I was on a tour of the Teotihuacan pyramids in Mexico City on Thursday, and in our group of about 35, there was a trans woman. And… everyone was friendly, welcoming, just happy looking at pyramids. Because most people aren’t hate-filled psychopaths. It’s not difficult.

Finished The Exhibitionist by @charlottemendelson.bsky.social Just excellent, sharp and distilled, infuriating and human. Second novel I’ve read by her, both wonderful.

I have burst a blood vessel in my eye and a full half of it is blood red. I am lying shamelessly about it to people who ask. “What happened?” “Tiny meteorite.”

I love when I look up a one-hit wonder from 1986, wondering whatever happened to them, the first sentence on Wikipedia is in the present tense: “is a band from…”

There’s hope in the world.

I have seen more purple houses in one day in Mexico City than in my entire previous life put together.

I’ve read some extremely difficult books in my life, but I’ve struggled with Laszlo Krasnahorkai not because of prose or subject matter, but because my OCD just goes haywire for a 300-page single paragraph. My brain floods with cortisol thinking, where do I rest, where can I stop. It’s annoying.

All those bright and beautiful young acting minds being lost forever to the four Beatles films of the apocalypse.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Reiterating, I did this as an immigrant, too. Suck it, Reform.

*deep sigh* Again, I have an English degree and have contributed rather extensively to the British economy, including writing a show that pumped £10 million into Wales. But the stupidity is the point here, of course.

Badenoch and Co see education only as a means to a massive income in some soul destroying career.

Devoid of imagination and the power of knowledge they view life entirely through the prism of the CV.

My advice always is to study what interests you and the rest will follow
