Again today, I used @5calls.org to help frame a call on the Trump Budget Bill to my US representative
@repkimschrier.bsky.social and for the first time calling any of my Congress people, I got a staffer live on the call. Still used some of that script, but it was helpful. Call your representative.

After having discovered the Southern Reach series by Jeff VanderMeer late and reading it this fall, I’m now reading the fourth book, the prequel, Absolution. This is such wild, crazy unique stuff (it’s sci-fi/fantasy/horror/mystery/ecoterrorism). Love it and don’t understand 60% of it :-)

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Thompson said in a statement “Mobile Fortify is a dangerous tool in the hands of ICE, and it puts American citizens at risk of detention and even deportation.” He also said “ICE officials have told us that an apparent biometric match by Mobile Fortify is a ‘definitive’ determination of a person’s status and that an ICE officer may ignore evidence of American citizenship—including a birth certificate—if the app says the person is an alien. In case you need a personal reminder: COVID is still out there, and we're in an upswing again. Spouse and I picked it up two weekends ago, tested positive early last week. Started Paxlovid, but I was still testing positive a few days ago and had to cancel a business trip.
