New paper in JPSP led by my amazing grad student Shuang Wu (not on Bluesky). We see people with more self-control as more powerful, and are more interested in giving them power. Nice writeup in UCSD Today today.ucsd.edu/story/having...

And really, my only qualification for answering that question is I have mentored some PhD students. And I believe none of them presently hate me?

Last week had coffee with a new faculty member (from diff dept) and they asked for advice on mentoring PhD students. Glad that person asked, but your post makes me now think that asking other faculty members to lunch was one of their few options for getting such advice 😥

So far I am just responding to other people. That counts, right?

I found some of the Ariely stuff more shocking than the Gino stuff.

Yeah, that article is... something. And when you compare it to the New Yorker piece, the flaws are even more striking.

Is there such a thing as too much okra?
