Upgrading my @opnsense.org firewall from 24.7 to 25.7, using a USB drive so I could change from UFS to ZFS, could not have been easier. It only took about 15 minutes from the initial reboot to finished upgrade.

Correct, stable images are almost never released because QA takes too long. But some times in the past it was for valid reasons (Iike panics or installer fixes).
