Golden sands, turquoise sea - what exotic location could this be? #Iceland, ofc! Looking positively tropical, this #Scape is a current favourite of mine 😍🇮🇸

This book is beautiful, lyrical & rather melancholy, enjoyed isn't quite the right word for it but I really did. Poetry can kill & a book can be a heavy burden to bear, and yet might save your life as effectively as the right clothing. 5🌟 Books 2 & 3 on my #TBR now! #Iceland #FictionInTranslation 💙📚

He's awesome! What have you seen him in? I think The Minister is my favourite of his Icelandic ones, although I saw The Deep and Trapped first, but he pops up all over the place and my family are bored of me piping up 'met him!' Even YD knew who he was cos he was in The Meg! 😂🦈
'...looking at the icebergs as the sleet gently pissed on my chips' - I'm sure I don't know what you can mean with this 'less poetic' nonsense 🤣🤣
I think the grammar is the hardest part so some official help and explanation with that, that you just can't get the same way from books, *would* be good!
Oh that's 1am for me 😴 I know, I know, where's my dedication?! The Icelandic Roots book club is also at either midnight or 1am for me depending on the summertime clock changes, so sometimes I have to weigh up sleep vs the book (tbh the books often win but I probably look like a zombie every meet 🤣)
@olafurdarri.bsky.social I can't help but notice that you haven't finished your passion project of recording a Laxness audiobook for me 🤔 Oh wait, that's 𝘮𝘺 passion project, not yours...oh well, let's not split hairs - see you in a few weeks at #IcelandNoir! 😉 Sjáumst bráðum! #Iceland #ClassicMono 🇮🇸
Black & White photo of a smiling pair, both with curly hair, he with beard, she with glasses, him in black, her in denim dress. He's MUCH taller than her. He is the actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and she's a middle aged grinning little fangirl 😂
Oops sorry, I was forgetting you didn't come under the Brexit-screwed umbrella 🤦🏼‍♀️

(tho like me you've both probably read them all but you might not own them all as physical books!)

My first #IcelandicNoir too, and in 2016 - then we visited Sigló because of it! I love this reissue, it's such a beautiful book 😍
We loved Skútafoss! I waded the river to get another perspective but you're right, the best view was framing from this side 🤩👌 Jon went behind the falls but I couldn't quite drag myself up 😂🦥
We went on to Vestrahorn thinking it was probably going to be a pointless visit (we'd not been before) but we weren't far out of the Vík city limits (!) and it was completely clear! Just a hat of fog over Vík 😅
We saw the Vík riders too when we were there, when our paragliding trip was cancelled due to...well, see the picture! 😶‍🌫️ It's lovely to see them on the black beach, and I love a good 'silhouette on the horizon' pic, yours is 😍👌

Excellent blackboard quote 🤩 Maybe you could arrange some of Bert's many digestives into some sort of a mask to absorb the tears? 🤔 Instead of cheering you, how about you read Lantern of Lost Memories and (if you're like me) just cry some more?! 🥺
I'm reading the old Grágás Laws of #Iceland (in little shifts!) atm, today found if I 'fall into a berserk rage' (is it voluntary? 🤔) that's lesser outlawry for me (lose property, 3yrs banished) & if you're there & you don't stop me, lesser outlawry for you too! Is it a good class? I tried personal lessons on Zoom during covid but I couldn't get on with it. Part was the tiny lag so sound and lip movement didn't quite match (not that lipreading would be ANY help but my brain just wants to do it!) but part was the tutor was unstructured. Maybe a class better?
