We abandoned public health as too expensive due to austerity, and a generation without support, good housing and even affordable food entered a respiratory disease pandemic that we went on and handled like idiots, because we had idiots in charge.

And note that he never rejected what some sneeringly refer to as "idpol". Never came close to throwing minorities under the bus. On the contrary. The affordability agenda came hand in hand with him actively standing up for those principles. He could never have mobilised his base like this otherwise.
Zohran's campaign was his determination to make New York a city everyone can afford to live in. Huge congratulations!

His success will resonate throughout the world. A story where no one is left behind.

It's time to write that story across England & Wales too.

One of Rachel Reeves' minions was on the news saying we all had to "do our bit" and pay more in taxes

No minion, we don't. We've been "doing our bit" for the past 18 years via austerity and yet the rich have been getting richer whilst we get poorer

Tax wealth, NOT work

Dick Cheney died far too old and far too free. The fact that such monsters get to pass away in their eighties surrounded by loved ones instead of alone in a cage is an indictment of our entire civilization.

Saw a news report yesterday about children as young as 9 being given weight loss jabs on the NHS, and I think it shows just how utterly bullshit the “lack of research into long term impacts” excuse for banning puberty blockers for trans kids really was. It’s purely ideological.
Just saw the “I consider my business settled with all trans sisters.” tweet posted on Reddit and the chorus of ‘FUCK YOU!!’s is loud enough to be heard from orbit.
The fucking audacity of her.

A French cyclist survived for three days after a horrendous 130-foot fall into a ravine, kept alive by the bottles of red wine he had in his shopping bag, police said.

Been waiting so long for a physical release of this classic in a decent format. Last version I had was on VHS.
That’s my Halloween night viewing sorted.

Tolkien fought in the Battle of the Somme. He saw the horrors of war, and the moments of bravery and fear within it up close.

And after all that. ALL that. He wrote Lord of the Rings. He declared true bravery and masculinity to be love, friendship and humbleness.

Musk is everything he hated.

Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

I think a lot about the chance we had at the start of COVID to finally become a more compassionate, collectivist nation, and how profoundly we were failed not only by the sociopathic greed of the ruling class but by each other.

It doesn’t mean we won’t get there, but the lost opportunity haunts me.

Just that nagging thought that never mind the economy Labour is doing badly in polls because it really doesn't look like a government in charge of anything least of all having a coherent message.
I’m told Labour MPs have been told by whips to *abstain* in the vote on Nigel Farage’s ten-min rule bill on leaving the ECHR, which has left some furious. Whips’ arguments seems to be to just ignore it. Labour MPs worry it leaves Lib Dems/Greens looking like only they care on this.

If I had a shitload of money and wished to hasten the arrival of the Kingdom of God I would simply follow the clearly labeled instructions by housing immigrants, freeing prisoners, and so forth
Someone saw one of those dystopian sci-fi movies where the elite live in sky palace towers and the poors live in dark slums on the ground and thought, “I could make that!”

And definitely don't vote for parties who say you've caused "incalculable damage" to the country.
