the single biggest thing that I see improve once a person discovers they’re autistic

is the slow dissipation of the HEAVY guilt we feel for needing rest

which weighes us down

& keeps us in burnout

because we’re too busy beating ourselves up to actually rest

& now that we know why, we rest 🫶🏻
One of the best things I’ve learned as an autistic person is that I don’t *have* to live by neurotypical rules all the time

The pressure can be immense. But it’s possible to slowly change that narrative

I’m gradually allowing myself to rest more, socialise my way & find joy in my autistic traits ❤️

My methods is one slide and I spend about 5 seconds on it.

A senior colleague have me a *thorough* post talk feedback session recently. I implemented their advice in the next talk and I've never had so many compliments.

It was a lot of the same advice Terry gives her.
I find there's a huge mismatch between the standard advice that people give about scientific conference talks, and how people actually give talks.

So I picked out the most important pieces of advice that are most often ignored. 🧪

Here are some prescriptions for a case of UCPS (Unengaging Conference Presentation Syndrome).

I accidentally had caffeinated coffee today and I am capital-A Anxious.
Different trusts have their own Choice and Medication pages with a lot of info on psychiatric medications. Not all mental health trusts have one, but this is the one for NSFT:

www.choiceandmedication.org/NSFT/
It has classes of medications, how long they take to work, how long to stop, and scores for common side effects.

Have you noticed the gradual and accelerating way in which the discussion of the rights of people who live with mental ill-health, distress and trauma has been pushed into the background in favour of surveillance, manipulation and erasure? The lives of those with mental ill-health as testing ground
This will require a pilot programme. So, can we start with AI counselling this guy on a daily basis until it determines either that he is no longer a complete sociopath or to commit him?
I meet too many people to remember all their names, but tell me the name of the cat I am petting on the street? Locked in.
"my body asks me to move... it more than asks, it wills..."
I think I'm doing okay without the quetiapine, so this might be the end of long term antipsychotics for me?

Currently taking 20mg propranolol in the evening. That's enough to prevent waking up at 4am.
Moving soon, so I finally could do with buying a car. Taken a little while to warm up to the idea, but now I'm impatient!

I've been looking for Hyundai i10 automatics, but I would welcome recommendations for a reliable automatic which I can get for under £5k used!

It's improving now, but I've cycled through all the typical URTI symptoms + muscle and joint aches + headaches + fever up to 39.1°c

And it will still probably be impossible to have incorrect and stigmatising diagnoses corrected from GP records.
Wes Streeting setting up a "review" of "over-diagnosis" of mental illnesses.

Chosen someone known to be anti-dx (and responsible for the dangerous SIM Model) to lead this. No bias there at all then...

This is just another ploy to minimise mental illnesses & remove support.

It shouldn't need to be said, but your value as a fellow human being is not whether you are financially productive or whether you avoid claiming benefits. Image created by @ritb.bsky.social
But some will have started before that qualification was a requirement.

I had a couple of mentors when I was an undergraduate, the focus for both was MH/pastoral (although looking back, I could have done with some study skills support).

If your mentor is a bad match, you can ask to see another.
I'm assuming you're talking about DSA mentors, like mental health mentors?

I know a mentor, and he definitely offers pastoral/mental health support. Most mental health mentors will have qualifications in mental health fields (eg. MH nursing, counselling, etc)...
Looking at housing listings, so many have similar looking new plush grey carpets - fashionable, or just the cheapest available?
I just need to take off my jumper and quickly go do a thing so I can leave on time today....
Woke up at 4am, very difficult to tell whether it's an adverse consequence of stopping quetiapine, just that I need less sleep, or there's something else going on which I cannot easily determine (stress? anxiety? excitement? I just need to pee???)
Come home to my partner vacuuming the living room ❤️
Discord is easily my biggest time sink, but it's also the main way I am in touch with three important people in my life. I wish they used a messenger app (preferably Signal).
I found out this week that Android Digital Wellbeing allows you to put limits on app use (easy to bypass if desired) - but I do want to spend less time on my phone, really. Looking back, apparently I spend about 2½ to 3½ hours on my phone each day.

(I have reached the limits on 3 apps today.)
