Iceland isn't bug-free, as anyone who's been near Thingvellirvatn can tell you. This was taken at Silfra 12 years ago. If there were bugs, that picture would look misty. Yes.

For a very long time, Iceland had no large mammals, so mosquitoes had no food sources. Nor did it have year round stagnant water.

The settlers brought livestock from mosquito-free areas, using slow ships. That was 1200+ years ago.

This is catastrophic.
