Tuesday,
There were 4 Ruffs (2 adults & 2 juveniles) on Crossland's causeway,
18 Cormorants were counted on the Village lake, with 30 Shovelers about the reserve,
Despite yesterday's thoughts, the Common darters are still lingering on, with 8 counted today, including the Butterfly walk gate post regular.
Today he was joined by a late (for here) Willow emerald damselfly
Male Stonechat by the Dragonfly ponds. Adding a touch of colour to the area, it is hoped that it might winter in this area.
Unusually there is no female present (although there are other wintering pairs on the reserve).
So it could be an attraction until March!

Grey Plover Crosslands Lake NCW 22/10/25
From this morning on Crossland's causeway, a totally unexpected winter Grey plover.
Always distant & only here for a brief time in the late morning
Some pictures of todays' Whooper swans, all either on East Holm or Crossland's lake.
All of them had only brief stays, so did provide some good opportunities for flight shots (always a marvellous part of watching them)
Wednesday,
There was a winter plumaged Grey plover briefly on Crossland's causeway in the late morning (it flew off high to the north),
On Crossland's lake & East Holm, there was 2 single & a herd of 4 brief Whooper swans, all later flying off north,
The drake Goldeneye was still on the Main lake,
Tuesday,
On Crossland's lake, 20 Whooper swans (in herds of 3, 8 & 9), plus 300 Pink-footed geese over & the drake Goldeneye Main lake,
2 adult Ruff were mobile about the reserve, & a Green sandpiper on East Holm,
A record count of 8 Marsh harriers were above fields to the north of East Holm,
One of 2 Ruffs to day,on the Island lake in the general early morning, drizzle & poor light,
We have had up to 4 Ruffs visiting the reserve, with none staying on a consistent basis, so they must be spending most of their time nearer the Humber.
Monday,
A juvenile Black tern was over Crossland's lake during the morning,
The Bittern showed well on the Main lake today,
2 Ruffs were on either the Island lake or Crossland's causeway, with 2 Dunlins seen around Crossland's lake,
Also seen was about 30 Pink-footed geese north

When a mid-work lunch/return journey allows for a lifer, which might come as a surprise but despite the hideous weather, distance my hideous camera skills etc. etc. a very smart juv Black Tern @northcavewet.bsky.social today
#YorkshireBirding #UKBirding Made me very happy.
No Jack snipe this morning, but there were 4 Marsh harriers & 2 Peregrines providing a raptor spectacular over East Holm & Crossland's lake,
Obviously all other birds were not as enthusiastic about this as I was
This morning, there were 38 Curlews on the Island lake, so that numbers are hopefully slowly building up.
Interesting that they do not arrive together but in continuous small numbers, the new arrivals always landing just outside of the group so as not to disturb those already there
Sunday,
A drake Goldeneye on the Main lake, along with Bittern & Great white egret (also seen elsewhere),
Over East Holm & Crossland's lake, 4 Marsh harriers & 2 Peregrines in the morning,
The eclipse Garganey was on West Holm today,
In the early morning there were 38 Curlews on the Island lake,
