there are more trump voters in NYC than *people* in Wyoming!
it’s ironic how nothing makes you sound more like you live in a weird little bubble than when you make the bizarre assumption that liberals in big cities have never interacted with a conservative before
The educated liberal big city US folks outraged at Trump's renovation of Lincoln bathroom really need to scroll some Facebook of their less established relatives and friends to see what kind of aesthetic resonates with Trump's target audience.

NYC civil summonses surged under Mayor Eric Adams—from 11,000 in 2019 (before he was mayor) to over 90,000 in 2024—undermining the spirit of a 2016 criminal justice reform. Black and Latinx communities remain disproportionately targeted in neighborhoods that are traditionally overpoliced.

New York City’s outgoing mayor has directed police to issue more civil summonses, sparking concerns the practice is undermining a city reform. Will the next mayor take a different path?

not sure who’s doing that but when i look around at the state of capitalism, it feels like we’re living through it’s death throes and tech robber barons seem to be doing their best to ensure that the post-capitalist world is something a lot more feudal than, say, socialist.
i don’t run a national news network but cnn calling this an “isis inspired attack” based on a third party telling of pure speculation by law enforcement seems pretty freaking shoddy to me

Here’s a disturbing video from Evanston of a federal agent hitting a man on the ground as people yell that he can’t breathe.

emerging reports about possibly imminent US military attack on venezuela. there can be no doubt about it, certainly not in the coverage: such an attack would be an act of aggression, lacking any basis in international law. we'll get sophistic arguments about self-defense but none will be legit.
mostly matt isn’t as interested in appealing to voters as he is in appealing to mega donors because he thinks the latter is how you achieve the former. many such cases
what about American “journalist” lol

NEW: ICE is planning to build a shadow deportation network in Texas. A proposal outlines a 24/7 transport operation run by armed contractors—turning Texas into the logistical backbone of an industrialized deportation machine.

WTF 🤬

A police officer in Baltimore, Maryland, attempted to run over and kill a civilian who refused to answer their questions.

Absolutely horrific scene following this massacre, where police killed over 100 people.

This is ugly. But the reason this lady was protesting is even worse. ICE thugs detained two children and their father on their way to school. One child appears to have been beaten in detention, and no one seems to know where the 12-year-old girl is right now. The family had been seeking asylum.

WOW! The Washington Post obtained the rest of the body cam footage showing that the drunk-driving ICE agent promised to check if the arresting officer's partner was Haitian. "I’m going to run some checks when I get back." He added that he would have him deported if "not legit."

HAPPENING NOW: Portland Police Commander Franz Schoening testifies that federal officers on Oct. 18 barraged protesters with crowd control munitions — not because of any violence but because another federal officer accidentally shot tear gas onto the roof of the ICE facility.

Look. It would be great if there was one simple trick for winning elections. But 'just be more moderate' isn't it.

In fact, you can use the NYT's exact method to 'prove' a 'Progressive Advantage' of +1.4 pts.

This piece shows what's really going on: funded candidates do better than unfunded ones.
The New York Times’ “Moderation Advantage” Is a Statistical Illusion
After accounting for money and incumbency the supposed electoral bonus for moderate candidates vanishes entirely.

It literally took decades of advocacy to pass these reforms, which would have prevented prison phone and teleconferencing companies from ripping off inmates and their families to the tune of hundreds of millions annually

However bad you think the police surveillance state has become, it’s worse. Here a tiny police force has blanketed a tiny town in a network of cameras to track every person and vehicle that goes through. Which leads a cop to this woman’s house to lie to her to coax a false confession.
