I’ve read more books this year, & more physical ones than the ebooks which is a change on recent years.

I have noticed I am drawn to shorter books whereas in the past I’d want the thickest books possible. This is more to do with physical health than a short attention span caused by social media
Despite the grumpy face we got lots of purrs from the cemetery cat this afternoon!

I’m guessing he was taking a break from chasing the squirrels - lost count of how many were scampering around today.
A large grey cat sitting on a wooden bench.
You are very kind (and will help me tick off Iceland from my read the world project!)
If the offer is still there please could I request Advent by Gunnar Gunnarson?
You win some, you lose some - tried a new Sri Lankan curry this evening. We like all of the ingredients but somehow the curry didn’t quite do it for us.

If anyone can recommend some good slow cooker curry recipes or cookbooks I’d be greatful.

It’s nearly seal pup time here in Norfolk so it feels timely to be reading Alix Morris’s A Year With The Seals.

The book is a mix of love for seals, science, ecology, climate change impact & an acceptance of the different importance seals have for the Indigenous populations.

Morris’s book which is an underwater picture of a swimming seal in some kelp with the title, subtitle & author printed in shades of cream and blue A white furry seal pup on a sandy beach, taken by me from a safe distance with a long lens in Norfolk, November 2024
Fingers crossed, but better this end of the week as I've got nice things planned on Friday and we're away next week
Absolutely not alone, strong scents trigger both me and the husband into migraines 🤢

My mum uses a detergent that while it doesn't give migraines is *really* strong - we have to put our clothes through the laundry at least twice when we get home from a visit
I woke up with a headache that could almost have been a migraine this morning and while meds have kept it at bay mostly, it has been niggling in the background all day and I feel completely washed out.
And I can’t concentrate on anything.
Is it bedtime yet?
I’m not saying that
a) it’s Monday and I’ve not yet engaged my brain

Or

b)I read too much on my Kindle or iPad

But

I did just try to plug my paperback in so that it was fully charged when I get home later…

I love reading books set in places I've been to (or want to visit)
I loved The Island of Missing Trees, I think it would be one of desert island books!
Morning all!

I kept to my reading plans (mostly) last week but Bookshop Girls by Kei Aono does roll over to this week.

I also want to finish Cooked Cross by Sally Carson.

In non fiction The Quiet Ear by Raymond Antrobus or A Year with the Seals by Alexandra Morris are calling.

Happy Reading 📚💙
We tried the new trail at the Norfolk Showground today. Hopefully over time it will become a little more interesting and nature filled but it was still an interesting walk - with a farm shop full of treats to reward yourself with afterwards!
If only the sun had broken through...

A view across an expanse if green grass towards a row of trees starting to show autumn colours. They sky is (sadly) grey A view across a green field dotted with dandelions. There's a small hill in the distance with trees on it A dandelion seed head that is a bit damp with the seeds clumped together A dark brown capped fungus with a white speckled stem
Thank you - I've read lots of the individual astronaut autobiog & biogs but not sure I've read that overview - will add it to the list
Well my library reservation list has grown hugely after watching @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social - every book title mentioned that our library service has I’ve ordered!

As a huge space history fan please can I ask which Apollo book this was?

Stunned by the Storyville documentary, The librarians. So proud of the US school librarians opposing censorship despite the dangers.
Watching @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social now and it really isn’t good for my blood pressure.
I’m horrified at the content (as I knew I would be) and really hope that this censorship doesn’t last and doesn’t spread to the UK.
But if it does you can’t bet I will be on any protests

It didn't brighten up here today at all but we had a lovely walk in the woods - saw gold crests, long tailed tits, chaffinches, wrens & robins & heard a great spotted woodpecker.
The most variety of fungi for years. Not at all confident on the fungi ID & definitely wouldn't try eating any of them!
A bright white mushroom with brown speckles on top, I think it is a type of aminita A small mushroom with a bright white cap and white stem. Google ID says "sickener" so I'm guessing not edible 😆 A dark brown top to a mushroom with a pinkish stem, Google ID suggests a 'penny bun'
Isn’t that how everyone checks their library loans 😉
I don't think I will ask 😬
My after work on Friday treat matches my book this week!

A copy of the book "The Penguin Book of Penguins" with a Penguin chocolate bar on top.
The book is orange with a cream stripe down the middle with a stylised penguin illustration. The chocolate bar is in a green wrapper and resting on the book
I don’t know your daughter but it seems like she is doing everything to scare you that she can!
Many thanks to @biggreenbooks.bsky.social and @lnr.bsky.social for my #BuyAStrangerABook post - now I’ve wrestled it off of Mr Norfolkbookworm I’ve really enjoyed @tomgauld.bsky.social Physics for Cats this afternoon
