Self-deprecating handle (say it a few times fast). Pro-democracy. Focused on SCOTUS and the federal judiciary, but not exclusively so. Upside-down flag is a distress signal.

If there's one thing I hope people will hear among the many (often dumb) things I post, it's this:

Americans—even those in the legal profession—have a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the Chief Justice.

Where is Chief Justice Roberts @judgeluttig.bsky.social?

As the titular head of the federal judiciary, it is incumbent upon him (along with the Judicial Conference, which should have held a special meeting by now to address these dangerous attacks on the Article III branch).
judgeluttig.bsky.social
Yesterday, more than 1,000 lawyers and legal groups signed a letter calling on Attorney General Pam Bondi to defend the Federal Judiciary, the Rule of Law, and the legal profession from the President’s vicious and palpably unconstitutional attacks.

Back in college (2010ish) we had a College Dems vs College Republicans debate. The College Republicans brought a full-size cardboard cutout of President Obama in a t-shirt that showed a cartoon elephant raping a cartoon donkey.

This is not the problem of a few bad apples. The GOP is a rotten barrel, built on racism and opposed to democracy. This is just one more piece of evidence.
noahdahl.bsky.social
Although consequences are beginning to be felt, I'd argue that these aren't the right ones (or at least not the *only* ones).

This needs to be extended to the broader Republican 'brand'—we see this time and time again with Republican-adjacent orgs (like TPUSA).

I think you're sadly right to be pessimistic. At one point Roberts might have cared. He used to try to seem moderate, throwing liberals a bone here and there. Now he sees that he has only one way to go: hard right.

@wbez.org responds forcefully to claims (probably BS) that one of the 37 people arrested in a proagandized raid on a south shore building was a member of Tren de Aragua, calling it "not terribly efficient".

[That oughta do it - Kristi Noem's resignation no doubt incoming]

Nothing to add.

Perhaps it will make its way into SCOTUS arguments on the VRA today.

The one good thing about the time we’re in is it *should* now make crystal clear for the doubters how the a significant faction of the Republican Party has cynically deployed “colorblindness” to further an explicitly racist agenda.

A 1% chance the pregnancy was viable means not only a 99% chance that it wasn't, but it also means there's a high likelihood of rupture which could kill the mother.

Denied abortion care in a state where abortion is protected.

"If you're explaining, you're losing"

It's an old adage in politics. But because Dems didn't make an issue of Trump's preferential treatment all along, they've allowed MAGA to set the terms of engagement.

They now have to argue this from an unfavorable position. Another opportunity squandered.

The right has declared that although Trump’s political prosecutions are regrettable, the “Democrats brought it on themselves,” @jonathanbchait.bsky.social writes. But “Trump was no victim of the legal system. If anything, he received preferential treatment”:

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

Every organization that refuses to sign should also leave the WH press briefing. There is zero value to maintaining that relationship—and a great deal of harm in continuing to grant the WH press office legitimacy.

Federal officials telling social media companies to take down posts was supposedly a free speech crisis. It’s not even really hypocrisy, since the right was lying about much of it.
And this isn’t misinformation, foreign influence ops, or public health, just 1A-protected speech the govt doesn’t like.
