É Finito! My piece for the second module of the Royal School of Needlework certificate.

#embroidery #art
Blackwork embroidery. The subject is the Pantheon in Rome. Blackwork embroidery uses geometric patterned stitches with varying thicknesses of thread, as well as deconstruction/negative space to create shading and highlights. This piece is based on a photograph. I took in Rome in 2001. The image is at an angle. The point of view is from the right front. Black and white photograph of the pantheon in Rome. This photograph was the basis for my black working embroidery project. I took the photograph on film in the spring of 2001. I scan the negative in turned it into a digital image. Originally, this was a color photograph, but I turned into a black and white one.

I really enjoyed this! So many great ideas.

I especially liked the Lenten Rose because it’s the subject of a future embroidery piece. Our local arboretum had a bunch of them.

My next module for the Royal School of Needlework certificate is silk shading. I’ll be using the photo on the left as my reference. It looks like a tulip but it’s actually a Lenten Rose, that is on its way to opening up.

#rose #lentenrose #bloomscrolling
A lenten rose with its petals still mostly in a closed position. As a result, it looks like a tulip. However, the shorter but wider leaves close to the bloom give away that it’s not a tulip. The rose is angled to the right and has muted pink and mauve colors
with darker hues on the underside and paler areas on the outer part of the top petal. The leaves are a bright green, with some almost lime green hues for the highlights and darker hues for the shadows. Part of a Lenten rose bush, with open and closed blooms.

I have a few goth plants in the garden to spook up the place.

Ornamental kale. Green with purple veins. Dark purple pansy with a yellow center Black and bloom sage (tallish sage with black and deep purple trumpet like flowers) Amaranth - a magenta flower that’s basically like a drooping tube with little branches coming off the bottom. There are also lime green leaves.

I regret to inform you that we are all getting older.

Look, I hate to break it to everyone but this is how they've always been when they think no one is looking.

Maybe there’s a reason the alt right is being weird about trump not getting the Nobel Peace Prize *this year*. Aren’t there plenty more years for him to get one?

Thank you for responding. The only problem is I don’t want to cry. I don’t like romance because there’s almost always a sad breakup before getting back together. Otherwise I would love to read more romance.

9. California may still pass progressive legislation, but leadership is measured not by symbolic gestures—it’s measured by the courage to act when it matters. And when it came to the bill that could have made the most tangible difference for trans people this year, Gavin Newsom failed that test.

Also, as someone who just started hormone therapy for perimenopause, it is a pain in the butt to only be allowed 30 day supplies by my insurance.

I get 90 day supplies for Synthroid and my SSRI.

I’m not trans but I am someone who is concerned about accessing medicine in my future. Trump/RFK have made it harder to get vaccines. There’s tariffs on pharmaceuticals in. RFK Jr said he wants to go after SSRIs.

I just wanna express solidarity with trans people who will be hurt by this veto.

I was able bodied until I got cancer at 25.

Anyone can be in an accident at any time.

There have been a ton of job cuts this year and a few jobs being created. Able bodied people do need Medicaid!

And they’re allowed to play video games when there’s no jobs.

Baseball really is the best sport because all it takes is one little bobble and suddenly a game built on routine and order devolves into panic and chaos

Don’t love that the cafe burns down. But thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks. I’ve read a lot of Nick Hornby. Guess I’m looking for something else. But I’ll make a note of it.

Everything that can be gerrymandered here is. Heavily.
An info graphic by Carolina Forward. The top half shows the result of the NC house election 2024. 51% of votes statewide came from Democrats and 48% came from Republicans. But only 41% of seats went to Democrats, while 59% went to Republicans. The bottom half of the infographic shows the NC Senate results. 50% vote statewide were from Democrats while 48% were from Republicans. But only 40% of the seats went to Democrats while 60% went to Republicans.

I don’t think the trending topics are often correct. At least on my app, it took a long time for Diane Keaton to trend after her death. I think Bluesky has a lot of work to do in this regard.

There should be more low stakes fiction.

I want some pleasant reads with a little drama but not devastating trauma.

Are Democrats making content showing how often Mike Johnson doesn’t know these things? Seems like a good compilation that could go viral.
