One of my pet peeves about this decade's "make your paper titles literal and specific" trend is that it results in countless papers being named variations on the same unmemorable thing, so when I'm looking through my archives trying to recall which paper said a specific thing, I'm SOL.

My accountant set me up with a payment schedule and the IRS is cashing my quarterly checks for my 2024 tax balance owed. I can even see my payments online on IRS.gov, but they also keep sending me threatening letters demanding the full amount or they'll levy my property. Get your shit together, IRS!

I don't know how else to put it but when people who support evil things that are objectively bad, like transphobia, misogyny, racism, slavery, and genocide, complain about feeling judged or condescended to by people who oppose those things... there's no way to not make you feel bad about being bad.

Data and coding people; what's your favorite full-size keyboard? My MX keys is dying and I'm ready to switch it up (plus my husband has offered to buy me a new one). I would just go HHKB but for whatever reason they don't seem to make one with a number pad, and bc of what I do I need a number pad.

"Making people healthier outside of clinics" is EXACTLY why I went into epidemiology. The social determinants of health are a huge part of what drives the developmental origins of health and disease, and this is why the epidemic of homelessness and housing instability are public health problems.

A lot of people don't know, don't try, or don't care. They get an answer, a document is generated, they determine it "good enough", and off it goes to become part of public record. Some of it doesn't matter, some of it does, some of it only matters cumulatively. All of it erodes civilization.

Now, here's the thing; it would be helpful if I didn't concern myself with quality or accuracy. But my job demands quality and accuracy. My information has to be true because it guides policy. But believe me when I say that all over the government, policy is being guided on AI lies and bullshit.
