I’m happiest when surrounded by books, castles and having a good cup of tea preferably with a large slice of cake in the gift shop. Website: https://nicolaharrisauthor.com Blog: thehistoricalinkpot.blogspot.com #KU #hisfic #tudors #BookSky #EDS 🦓

I used to work with children, in a role I loved deeply. Then my genetic condition flared up and writing became my lifeline. My heart is still with children. Please bid to win a signed novel & to support Children in Need. Thank you: www.jumblebee.co.uk/auction/deta...

In #Tudor England eating fresh #grapes was believed to 'trouble the belly and fill the stomack with winde'. Ripe grapes had a reputation of making the body fat, something vineyard owners apparently showed clearly. Some regiments advised to consume grapes after a meal, others challenged this take.
Women were sidelined, ignored and unheard in English history too. I think this is why Henry VIII’s wives are so intriguing to many women today. Most women’s lives were unrecorded unless they married the King or were Royal. We don’t have many birth dates for the six unless they were Royal at birth.

The magic of felting. Knitted wool + hot water + cold water + hot water + cold water + hot water + cold water + lots of rubbing and squeezing and agitation = Tudor caps🧶

A reminder there could always be a hidden Saxon church inside your house
✨Deerhurst, Gloucestershire. A kitchen in the nave and a bedroom in the chancel hid within plain sight an Anglo-Saxon chapel built by Earl Odda (a relation to Edward the Confessor). Re-discovered in 1865, it is the most complete surviving Saxon church in England. #thread

I was invited to co-organise this upcoming conference being held later this month at the University of Exeter. With two days of exciting talks and panels, plus a walking historical tour of Exeter and a group dinner, I'd highly recommend coming along if you can!

So while most of you are aware that Game of Thrones is based on the Wars of the Roses (which was won by me, H7, your favorite King), you probably didn't know that we had white walkers too. Some people call them Scots, but I tend to think of them as mystical magical northern people with a bad temper.
