Imagine if a Tory MP with Home Office experience had said, in the middle of the Brexit negotiations “oh settled status for EU citizens is only provisional, we can change it any time we like, based on our interests not theirs, which don’t count”. Would have tanked the whole Brexit process.

This, in particular,should chime with any centre right voter or politician. We might add that Lam’s desire to torch previously agreed permanent residence rules will make life very difficult for millions of British citizens settled long term abroad, who rely on foreign govt’s abiding by such rules.

Lam does not set out her policy honestly. (Her second example is highly evasive & sets out a principle - you've broken the conditions you came on - that she breaches when stripping ILR)

Lam wants to remove well over a million legal migrants
- Most of those who don't have ILR yet
- Review all the non-EU people with ILR (430k say MigObs) + terminate all of those not on £38k
- She wants to extend that review to EU settled status [but that may be her own freelancing, not policy]
