Private Alfred Campin of the 6th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry during basic training in Britain in March, 1944.

Alfred was killed 13 weeks later in Normandy, aged 24. He is buried at the Bayeux War Cemetery.

Bought this in the Netherlands on a bit of a whim, as it intrigued me and was rather beautiful.
It’s an astonishing book. Engrossing, charming, sad and extremely moving. Can’t believe I hadn’t already heard about it. Instantly become one of my favourite books.

Had a similar experience last week arguing with a conspiracy theorist who thinks Covid vaccines cause it to spread and we should rely on herd immunity. Lesson to self: you can't win an argument against stupidity 🤦‍♂️

Great result #scfc Brilliant in the first half but seemed to run out of steam in the second. Pearson & Lawal were particularly good. Great to see us playing exciting football

Less said about that performance the better #scfc.
Can't remember us putting a foot in in midfield until Pearson came on. Too many passive performances. Hope we have got it out of our systems now.
