Of course, #Nexperia can get solved, and there will be relief or rejoicing. But it changes nothing about the fundamentals.
The next steps are as predictable as they are boring:

Profit warnings at tier-1 suppliers. OEMs slowing or shutting plants down. Hiring freezes. Blame game. A glimmer of hope somewhere. And at the end of the year, production and sales as flat as a pancake (over time).
The reality is, for over two decades, S&P and other industry projections factories have deluded OEMs into believing in 3-4% annual global growth in #automotive, when in reality, the industry is long-term shrinking.

One crisis after another (Takata, Fukushima, Covid, Ukraine etc) just masks reality
1. Carmakers have clearly learned nothing from the last chip crisis.

2. This is the latest in a long list of (roughly semiannual) crises that the automotive industry conveniently blames for not hitting their magical, mythical growth targets.

Yes, well familiar. Have ridden the few we have. They are much in dedicated track or separated. The bigger challenge is interaction with bus/taxi/ridehail etc

We really mustn’t worry too much about the billions that US colleges and universities “lost” to the current administration. My alma maters have more than made up for it…

Obviously, fully separated lanes are preferable - and much safer.

But if you made every tenth one of these an anchored, metal pole, then it would have an educational effect….
That’s actually part of the reason for a skew in depreciation / residual values (besides incentives ofc).

The performance/value improvements in just 3-5 years do outdate older models more quickly (until we hit a boring plateau, like ICE vehicles)

Of course - we’ve known this for a decade or more…
Absurd statement. London is multifaceted, safe, has the best schools in the country, varied home pricing, and beautiful green spaces. And the UK birth rate is higher than European neighbours. Let’s stay positive and celebrate our city.

It’s rather amusing how the battle for NB supremacy is still viewed as a duopoly for Boeing or Airbus to win. By the time a successor is launched, the comparable Comac will likely be flying thousands of flights per day.
Translation: Airlines shouldn’t need to pay a penalty to passengers when they cancel flights at will. They should focus on maximising profit for shareholders instead.

This isn’t a question of safety or convenience. It’s just a question of who is more important. 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🙄
