Is it a swan? Is it an angel? I think it's a swangel.

You were correct with the ID! It's just that sometimes apps give North American common names rather than British ones. A useful thing to do is to see what scientific name the app gives, then use the BSBI Plant Atlas to check the common name used in Britain and Ireland.

A Red-legged Shieldbug, very appropriately resting on a red-legged sailor. This steel figure is in Jutland Wood at Langley Vale.

I stopped to admire the lovely shiny white seeds on this Common Gromwell, Lithospermum officinale, at Langley Vale yesterday. Then I was even more delighted to find a Seven-spot Ladybird and a Hairy Shieldbug were having a chat.

Lovely! Yes it is, but it's more commonly known in Britain as Common Storksbill. Scientific name - Erodium cicutarium.

Hurrah! Ploughman's Spikenard, Inula conyzae, at Langley Vale today. This is the first and only time I have seen any this year. #WildflowerHour

With apologies for being a day late for #WildflowerHour (due to some unaccustomed Sunday evening gallivanting), here is some Fig-leaved Goosefoot, Chenopodium ficifolium, growing on some unloved ground next to the Fairfield Halls in central Croydon.

With the spines and upright growth habit, yes, I'd say Spiny Restharrow. Common Restharrow is more low growing and patch forming.
