I religiously enter eBird data. I am a scientist by profession and eBird makes me feel I am adding to the data available to today’s scientists to progress our knowledge. It has helped me engage with my birding in many ways that were not possible during my previous birding period in the 90s.

As a county bird recorder I can honestly say that the best and easiest way for you to make your birding count, is to upload them to either eBird or BirdTrack. Doing so contributes directly to #ornithology and bird #conservation at both local and national levels.

The remarkable rise of eBird – the world’s biggest citizen science project
In 2002, an online database was set up allowing birdwatchers to record their species observations. It is now a vast resource, shaping scientific research.

Just when I thought I was going end my 9th autumn week on Holy Island without an island tick.....this occasional visitor came to the rescue. Well actually eleven of them 😆 As said, they all count.

We have reached Holy Island. It's still westerly and forecast to remain that way. 🥲 At least the sky is interesting 🤣 Actually the birds weren't too bad. Accrued 73 species on various wanders on foot from the digs. Whoopers in off the sea probably the best among them.

Adult ringed Osprey over French's Pool this am, soon after the other one caught a fish. This looks like 442, which is a 2022 male from Kielder. @harbourbirds.bsky.social @ukoi.bsky.social @ianballam.bsky.social @narwhalsh.bsky.social @lytchettbirder.bsky.social

You wait ages for one Glossy Ibis to turn up, then five arrive at once! Today at Lytchett Fields RSPB. Turned into quite the (local) twitch! I thought it was 5 Cormorants flying in until I picked up my bins!

Will be @ @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social for Migfest this weekend and would like to giveaway my old scope and tripod. If there's any young birders looking for a used but well loved scope that's seen plenty of rare birds please either point them in my direction or come find me over the weekend! #ukbirding
