Let’s raise @mdbass.bsky.social call for a #kamloops sobering centre with the province again. We don’t want to be the IIOBC’s next investigation of a jailhouse death.

The IIO's lead director called the case part of a "concerning trend and concerning problem," connected to multiple in-custody deaths over the past few years.

From 2019 to 2023, it was notified of 15 incidents in which detainees either died in police cells or after being taken to hospital from cells

Before and after. Today the new mini-rink at McArthur Island was officially opened. It was immediately filled with skaters. How wonderful. Thanks to City staff and DW Builders for moving this project to completion so quickly. #kamloops #BuildKamloops

Shout out to the Kamloops Cycling Coalition bike valet at Brewloops Beer Festival. It gives peeps a magical way to come to the festival. And frees up parking spots for this who need to drive. #kamloops
Three bike valet volunteers stand in front of a rake of bikes in the green glow of a Ferris wheel behind.

“Expanding the average car length from 5 meters (16.4 ft) to 5.5 meters (18 ft) decreases street parking spots by 9.3%, while an additional expansion to 6m (19.7 ft) causes a further loss of 7%…the growing share of larger vehicles has caused many on-street parking spots to effectively disappear.”
Meet the Montreal Mayor Who Declared War on SUVs
Oversized vehicles are devouring street parking spaces in the Canadian city. So one borough’s mayor is fighting back with bigger fees for hefty trucks and SUVs.

It was great to see the people out for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation hosted at Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc. The highlight for me was hearing from Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor from the Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation who is the creator of the orange shirt movement. 🙌

Her mother stands next to her in a ribbon skirt. Some of the people in the stands watching the dancers and drummers. Kúkwpi7 Rosanne Casimir speaks at the podium. Cllr Bill Sarai, Cllr Nancy Bepple, Master of Ceremonies Ryan Deneault, Cllr Margot Middleton stand in the Powwow Arbour.

#kamloops is served by BC Transit which has a completely different name governing structure. It is dependent on the province for funding rather than being able to set taxation on its own

Good news, my toilet resolution passed at @ubcm.bsky.social. It requests the province to find viable solutions to ensure public toilets are available and accessible in communities across BC to improve access to public toilets in public spaces & businesses.
